It amazes me that's possible when there are half a dozen better performers outside the WWE. Goes to show how great it is in ring in this era.
It is possible. Especially, the longer he stays in NXT. There's no question staying in NXT will help one accumulate better quality matches on that level than the main roster. As much as I love Gargano, I wasn't a fan of all of those kickouts in the last few minutes or so. But I guess Meltzer is okay with false finishes, finisher kickouts, and outside interference when it comes to match quality? I'm kind of surprised by that.

Re: Meltzer's NXT Takeover New York ratings.

That mainevent was a parody of wrestling and Mr. Johnny "EPICZ" Gargano is heading in the wrong direction. It's a dud and Meltzer has lost it since the 6 stars bullshit but now he should really be banned from rating any shit.

All Time
Steve Austin, Chris Jericho, Undertaker, Mankind, Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels, Batista, Cm Punk, The Rock, Bret Hart, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero

Current
Everyone is buried.

I took that last segment as he had an adrenaline boost and pushed through his limits.

uhh that's a little bit insane. It was a great match, but Idk if i even have it in NXT's top 3. Still, congrats to both. Gargano is cementing himself as one of the GOATs just for his ring work.

I wish we had the NXT 6 and mix them up back with the NXT of 2014 (Neville, Tyson, Sami)

We're seeing 3 GOAT wrestlers, the WWE GOAT and one of the most naturally talented performers of all time (Ibushi).
I love Gargano, but I need to see him do this on the main roster before I label him the WWE GOAT. Whole different ballgame on the main roster than NXT.

Yeah but I think a couple of 4.5* tier great matches on the main roster + a few more 5* matches in NXT will put him over the line IMO. Shawn still a better all round performer though and he inspired an entire generation. He's greater but I can see Gargano finishing as the WWE GOAT in terms of in ring performances.

Shawn is no longer the gold standard there. The likes of Okada, Tanahashi and Omega passed him a few years back to many.

He definitely can. He's excellent. I'm just interested to see how it goes on the main-roster for him. If Vince books him like trash for the majority of his main-roster run, it's going to be hard to label him as the best WWE performer of all time. I hope Vince is too busy with the XFL or retired by the time Johnny gets called up.

EDIT: How did this become a thing about Shawn? It's an NXT Meltzer ratings thread, and we're talking about Shawn. Why? Also, there are still plenty that have differing opinions. Not everyone bows down at the altar of today's supposed GOATS working a schedule nowhere near as crazy as WWF' was in the 80' and 90's and wrestling bigger, unatheltic guys like Diesel and Sid and Taker (who was better than those guys, but not the worker in the 90's he was in the 2000's) and getting classics out of them..

He'll never be the best performer of all time, he's not strong enough on the mic or charismatic to get that. In ring wise, definitely.

Shawn, Jericho, Austin, Punk etc. are safe there, he doesn't compare to them.
