Re: Pete Dunne Rumored for Main WWE Roster Call-Up
It seems to me that the general response here is that there's a lot of questions surrounding where Dunne ends up and what he ends up doing. I don't feel like there's a place for him on RAW because of how bloated and chaotic it already is at the best of times. I truly think the best place for him is SmackDown.
I think after having had such a long reign as United Kingdom champion, he has to take a hit. You probably have to portray him as a fighting underdog for a while. Yes, let's not forget that the talent on NXT and NXTUK is amazing, but surely I'm not the only one to have noticed that, with the influx of NXT talent to the main roster, they're making the usual suspects who have been on RAW and SmackDown for years look like dummies?
You have to make sure to show people there's a reason to be on the main roster.
There's an obvious structure to matches on RAW and it's sometimes painfully obvious to see. SmackDown can be the same, but SmackDown does and always has focused on story-telling over the past 5 years at the very least.
You can tell a fantastic story about Pete Dunne honing his craft around the world, coming to "the big leagues", dominating his platform, tipping his hat to Walter after a fantastic match, but not being ashamed to admit that his recent losses since his call-up (for the sake of debate) have humbled him. He can have fantastic matches with better-matched talent on SmackDown and you can literally drag it out as long as you want.
Not only are you treated to a series of ridiculously good, fast-paced and hard-hitting matches with the likes of Bryan, Nakamura, Styles and Joe, just to name a few, but you also face the possibility of seeing even more matches moved over with him during the Superstar Shakeup, and what with the WWE's boner for "first ever" things, perhaps a little biased on my part being from England, we may even see the first ever British world champion.
One thing is for sure, it's an exciting time to be a fan of WWE, so long as you can look at certain things with slightly tinted specs and see past the cringey bollocks.
