NJPW officially announces US subsidiary

Quote:
Chairman Sugabayashi and CEO Takami Obari are on hand to explain the structure of the company.

Obari: Phase 1 of international business has been hunting for talent. Phase 2 has been running events in the US and other countries and markets. We are entering phase 3, which is to establish a subsidiary in the US to be fully established in the market & engage with fans.

Obari: There is plenty still to be undertaken when it comes to furthering the brand in the US. Fans though, have a very close association to talent and core concepts of strong style, as evidenced by market research in Dallas.

Obari: Live events will be an important basis of New japan of America. It is important that fans get close to our wrestlers and see our wrestling close-up.

Obari: What fans in America value is the NJPW brand and concept, and the style of wrestling that represents. The NJPW brand is important, hence the name of New Japan of America.

Events will be run in West Coast, Texas, South East and Mid areas, with tours running through cities in those four key areas.

Obari: There is absolutely no plans to sell the Japanese market short. An office in the US allows for better talent relations in the US, and allows talent to further our brand within the American market, while allowing American fans to more easily support the brand.

Obari on key differences between US and Japanese markets: America is skewed more toward male fans, and they consume content digitally as opposed to through TV

In the immediate future, US tours will take place while the Japanese schedule is between tours, but there may be cases where tours run simultaneously, with talent schedules an important factor.

Obari: The plan will be to broadcast American events live on World wherever possible. Where that isn't feasible, they will be available VOD on delay.

Obari: 2020 schedules are still being considered, but there could be as many as double the 2019 slate of 12-13 events. There will not be a reduction in the number of Japanese events.

Obari: We have worked well with AXS TV, and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Other partnerships may be something we can discuss and consider as we move forward.
Spoiler for map of the key areas where they will tour:

Re: NJPW officially announces US subsidiary

This makes zero sense where is the talent going to come from are all the Japanese guys gonna do double duty?

Are they starting from the ground up with little to no talent left in the pool thanks to AEW and WWE?

think it will fail myself

The name is atrocious. And as much as I love NJPW, I think this is destined to fail. The competition is so much and all the above average talent in USA seems to be signed... let's see...

Re: NJPW officially announces US subsidiary

I imagine that since the tours will take place while Japan is in between tours the starting roster would be something like:

Lance Archer (US Champ)
Finlay
Juice Robinson
Bullet Club (Chase Owens, Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, El Phantasmo)
Rocky Romero
LA Dojo young lions (Alex Coughlin, Clark Conners, Karl Fredericks, Ren Narita)
Amazing Red (maybe)
TJP (maybe)

And whatever indy talent they sign (ROH talent like Bandido, Gresham & Cobb if they still want to work with ROH/when their contracts are up), maybe Stardom talent + random appearances from other NJPW roster members

The last thing anyone should want is for it to fail.

Do i think it be a massive success, probably not to be fair. But if it can get to ROH and Impact levels, it be doing well.

I think this would have been way better if they did this when The Elite were around.

I think the likes of Juice Robinson, David Findlay, Lance Archer are must for this promotion. I think Juice be a perfect choice as ACE. I think even send over some mid carders for some longer periods like Sanada, Evil, Ospreay, Takagi for some feuds for a month or two. And have the likes of Okada, Ibushi, Tana, White and Naito turn up here and there for match. And they got some talented LA dojo talent.

Great news for talent and fan's wanting another wrestling product.

Re: NJPW officially announces US subsidiary

I wonder what this means for the NJPW-ROH relationship. Wouldn't have thought ROH would be all that happy with it, as it's more direct competition for them, and I'd assume this means an end to the joint Global Wars shows.

Interesting move by NJPW, well at least there's going to be another new product out there to look out for.

I think their relationship has been on ice since that MSG show, it feels to me NJPW feel they don't need ROH, and they probably don't. ROH is on a steep decline since The Elite quit.

Don't want it to fail. Just don't think it will be successful for them long term.

If AEW wasn't around and with bucks and Kenny around in NJPW, sure.
