Suzuki and Harold Meij Both Leaving NJPW?

According to Joe Lanza from Voices of Wrestling, Suzuki is said to be unhappy with his spot in NJPW and will likely go back to NOAH. According to his sources in Japan, he was told " If not for the Liger feud, he would be gone from New Japan already."

He also says Meij is gone after Wrestle Kingdom.

Sabre-Gun time I guess.

If true that is. You think Suzuki would stick around for a Mox match? Pretty please? I wonder if being left out of the G1 has anything to do with this. Also, with everything else crazy going on, I wonder if WWE or AEW would make a play for him.

Sounds about right. Suzuki is friends with NOSAWA who is the booker of NOAH (or at least one of them) and Suzuki has been going down the pecking order for some time now. He has been pretty stale too. Good time to change scenery.

Harold Meij leaving is a shock. I wonder if that was a company decision or him, since Meij was brought in to help New Japan in the States and well, its no better than it was.

He just wrestled Okada for the title. Something a man of his age has no business doing. And now he's in an awesome feud with Liger. I fail to see what the issue is. Most other guys his age don't even get tv time.

As long as Suzuki doesn't take the spotlight away from the core talent that NOAH has pushed, I'm fine.

Suzuki-gun damn near killed NOAH.

I think with AEW and WWE competing in the states, NJPW don't see a need to push that hard into the States. It makes no financial sense especially since the US shows while drawing a good crowd isn't that much better than running shows back home.

I'm guessing they are happy running a few shows per year there and it would be better focusing on domestic business like trying to run bigger shows like in the Osaka dome.

I definitely wouldn't mind if they shifted focus to domestic business next year.

Just have Naito be double champion coming out of January 5th is all I ask.

I doubt Suzuki-Gun will be Sabre gun. Taichi-gun is more likely since Taichi has been with the group since it was Kojima-gun, is a full timer and would benefit from it more than ZSJ.

Well as long as they don’t drop English commentary, less focus on the west is ok I guess.

I just threw up in my mouth a little from you just mentioning Suzuki in the WWE. If you want to see the complete ruination of someone's aura and legacy watch what will happen if Minoru Suzuki goes to WWE.

AEW is the place if he is willing to wrestle in the states. Have a long extended feud with Mox culminating at AEW's first hardcore centric PPV.

Re: Suzuki and Harold Meij Both Leaving NJPW?

Well, AEW is some kind of a dead end for Meij's western expansion fetish. I believe that the things in general will be better when he is gone.

as for Suzuki, I don't want him to work for a single company.

Re: Suzuki and Harold Meij Both Leaving NJPW?

Well that was short lived for Harold. I'm guessing they are slowing the role of Western Expansion due to AEW and the decreased interest in NJPW since the Elite left. They have access to all the numbers of whether they actually grew and made money on the US shows and I'm guessing they haven't fared as well as they expected. It's kind of a "too bad" but not a huge deal as some have said they still have their domestic market well intact. I'm now guessing they do 1 or 2 shows here per year and maybe 1 or 2 in UK and then run the rest in Japan. Enough to not burn out their welcome or compete with AEW.

Maybe I'm reading too far into this but there might be an underlying reason as well, maybe they decided to work with AEW after all? I had heard that their ROH partnership might end at the end of the year (not confirmed, no real source, just speculation on a few due to ROH stuff supposedly not being available on streaming service after 12/31) Don't take this as a sure thing because it probably won't happen but you never know.

As far as Suzuki.....well I like Suzuki but he shouldn't be in high profile matches anymore, he had a couple good runs with the NEVER belt and a decent run with the IC belt which is more than most can say and the program with Liger and the title shot against Okada is honestly a little more than he should be having at this time (as someone said.) Maybe they were about to "dad" him by putting him in opening matches and he's like "oh hell no!" Maybe the G1 thing was legit and he was legit pissed he wasn't apart of it (still think it was a work though.) Anyway, hopefully he is happy where he ends up.
