WON: Notes on Katsuyori Shibata and Hiromu Takahashi

Quote:
Virtually nobody was told about this ahead of time aside from those involved in the angle. They were all told that this was a very perilous situation and make sure to stay away from Shibata’s head. Shibata would do his trademark spots and get beaten down, but stay away from his head. This was a one-off situation as Shibata can’t be cleared to wrestle

Regarding Hiromu Takahashi, the only thing we’ve heard is that he’s almost ready to return and they want to do is right and there’s no rush. It seems it’s more about how Gedo can weave a storyline around his return for impact and having the return coincide with something big
"Something big" like, say facing Liger in his final match, and then celebrating with LIJ after Naito becomes double champ

Most will be crushed about the Shibata news, but that doesn't take away from the impact of the angle. Goto is there as the ideal surrogate, nothing wrong with that as Shibata simply just doesn't need to risk being the next Misawa.

Honestly, idc what Time Bomb does if he returns. Having him back will be good enough for me. (but duh he's money, so it'll be something BIG)

We all want a big Liger finale, but the truth is he's so humble, he'll probably work with some vets & Young Lions in match two, take a bow, and then that's it.

Thought it was clear that the Shibata angle was a one off thing

They might have played it off as KENTA stumbling on the PK, but in my eyes it was KENTA being careful and slowing down to make sure he didn't accidentally hit Shibata in the head.

Kinda looking forward to a Hiromu return, but also kind of sad as it just means that my boy BUSHI will be pushed further down the LIJ ladder

It hurts knowing you're right. But hey, that's why Liger rules.

Yeah, I'm happy to never watch Shibata wrestle again if its best for his health. One hell of a final in ring moment

Shibata thing isn't surprising, he didn't look to have missed a beat though, it was amazing to see him out there and I am more sorry for him not being allowed to do what he surely still loves than how the fans feel about it

Never say never in wrestling, but if it comes down to risk/reward for Shibata, he should stay inactive. It was so cool seeing him layout Kenta though .. and get those kicks in, guy hasn't missed a beat and he's surely missed

Re: WON: Notes on Katsuyori Shibata and Hiromu Takahashi

I feel like Meltzer's been reporting a Hiromu return all year now. To the point where at G1 Supercard, he said they should have done a tease then. And that was 4 months ago. So I don't know what to believe at this point.

All I know is that I would love to see him against Liger or Ospreay when he comes back. Dragon Lee is the natural rivalry, but Lee just doesn't do much for me.

As far as Shibata as soon as the excitement of the segment died down you knew it was probably a one off. Still not gonna get a potential Shibata vs. Kenta match at WK out of my head, lol.

Fuck.

I've missed a lot.

With Hiromu, I've been hearing about his imminent return so often and so long that look man, I'll believe it when I see it. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually never does wrestle again....

Shibata. Jesus that was awesome. No not just awesome, that is one of the greatest post match segments in wrestling history period. Zero ring rust on that man. One of the great cruelties of my entertainment viewing life is his injuries and inability to safely work a match again
