Re: NJPW Super J Cup 2019 in USA - 8/22, 8/24, & 8/25

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't the most pumped for Liger getting to beat the heck out of Young Lions in the opener.

Soberano has a good chance to move back the first round.

TJP guaranteed to move on; good.

Poor BUSHI.

Taguchi vs Gresham sounds GREAT on paper.

Eagles vs Phantasmo happening right off the bat. Gonna be interesting how much of a heated battle it may be, considering it's gonna be nothing like their BOSJ match and all of the recent history.

Another SHO vs Ishimori match to try and salvage their poor BOSJ match; fingers crossed.

Ospreay vs Red, because why the heck not? Can't get prime Red, but we got prime Ospreay, and that's even better.

The shitty part about these shows is that they won't be airing live on NJPW World. They're gonna be VOD only down the line. That's gonna kill some fo the hype if I'm being honest.

BUT, here's the full bracket:

That VOD news is def a downer aspect. Gonna have to avoid results as long as I can with that out there.

By the clear looks of it, right side going to be dominated & probably won by either Caristico or Lee. (Taguchi is my only hope there, unless some upsets, but doubtful)

The left side's chances are much more promising. Much like in life.

Not being live sucks. I figured with the last night being in the Walter Pyramid which is a fairly big building we would get lucky in that regard.

I don't know what they're going to try and accomplish with this, but just a random guess, I'll go with Dragon Lee to win. Either that Ospreay just adds another accomplishment to list.

Went to the match card on their website and found this on the 3rd night:

Quote:
8-10 matches planned for the event
Jyushin Thunder Liger, Juice Robinson, Tetsuya Naito and Jay White will be in action!
They should defintiely advertise those guys sometime to sell the rest of those tickets.

Re: NJPW Super J Cup 2019 in USA - 8/22, 8/24, & 8/25

Meltzer said on his latest show that Hiromu is coming back and that they want it to be real big.

So I see two scenarios here:

A) Ospreay wins J-Cup, defends against ELP on Destruction tour. After his win Hiromu returns.
B) Dragon Lee beats ELP in J-Cup finals and on some show beats Ospreay for the title. After his win Hiromu returns.

I think first scenario is better if we look at it from popularity and "kayfabe power levels" side because Ospreay is bigger star than Dragon Lee, but from emotional angle I think people would stronger reaction if it was second scenario.

Plus, I think that Ospreay is moving up. He might still do a thing with juniors here and there, but it is probably only a matter of time before he fully transitions into a heavyweight. Hiromu was a star before his injury anyway and when he returns he'll probably get as big reaction as Shibata did so you don't really need Ospreay to put Hiromu over. So in that sense I think it would be better if Dragon Lee wins J-Cup and beats Ospreay. With Ospreay moving up Dragon Lee needs to be established as worthy rival for Hiromu.

You can argue that there is a story to tell with Hiromu coming after the guy that hurt him in the 1st place, though honestly I'm more interested in Hiromu staring down Ospreay. I'm honestly just not that big a fan of Dragon Lee.

But lets say they do go with Hiromu vs. Lee, you wonder what Ospreay would do going into WK season and who he would challenge or face.

Maybe Shingo in some special singles match? Because I have no idea what Shingo will do either. He moved up to heavyweights so he is not tagging with Bushi. NEVER title will probably in KENTA/Shibata or KENTA/Goto match and Evil/Sanada will probably still be heavy tag. So nothing really for Shingo either.

I think that rematch of BotSJ finals with both guys now having a bit more "heavyweight experience" would draw interest.

As long as ELP doesn't win, I'll happily wait until they upload it.

Hiromu making his return to beat up shitty Dragon Lee

Re: NJPW Super J Cup 2019 in USA - 8/22, 8/24, & 8/25

If Moxley is still US champion come WK, Ospreay moving up to US could work well. Ospreay vs White or Naito for IC would be better but Ospreay as US champ could work well. You also got the option of Tanahashi rematch, especially if Tanahashi wins British Heavyweight title of ZSJ at Royal Quest.

For Ospreay to reach his peak, he needs to leave Jr division ASAP so winning here, being confronted by Hiromu and then doing the match at Destruction or KOPW works perfect. Hiromu then has rematch with Dragon Lee and a potential epic match with ELP, that they can do for WK.
