August 1, 1981...a date in Music History

We are coming on the 35th anniversary of the debut of MTV...the Music Television Channel.

This was a novel concept back then...we had previously seen the first 24-hour sports channel in ESPN, the first 24-hour news channel in CNN, and now a channel that played nothing but music videos all day. I was 8 years old in the fall of 1981 when my family got cable for the first time and I enjoyed watching MTV.

I grew up with the shows like Headbanger's Ball, 120 Minutes, Yo MTV Raps, Remote Control (awesome game show) and Beavis and Butthead. Now the show is about Real World, Martin re-runs, and watching Teen Moms get knocked up. You don't see too many music videos anymore on this channel.

Idea I saw on Youtube...someone said they should put out a music video marathon to honor its birthday, just like it used to be.
