Report: Impact Wrestling And AXS Negotiating TV Deal

Quote:
It looks like Impact Wrestling has found a new home in the form of AXS.

According to a new report by Voices of Wrestling, Impact Wrestling -- the former TNA -- is close to landing on AXS TV. This after years of instability that has seen them go from Spike TV to Destination America to Pop TV to Pursuit, as well as Twitch. It was noted that the deal isn't done and there have been hold ups in relation to it.

The move to Pursuit has been a tumultuous one. Both Impact and Pursuit are owned by Anthem, but Pursuit has made constant errors, including not returning from commercials, and playing the wrong episodes of IMPACT.

Fightful has reached out to AXS on the matter. At the time, AXS also hosts New Japan Pro Wrestling content, in addition to WOW Women of Wrestling. The latter actually features Impact stars Tessa Blanchard and Kiera Hogan heavily.

Even though AXS will be home to Impact, it doesn't look like a potential partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling is on the horizon. Fightful spoke to three sources within NJPW who said that it's very unlikely unless AXS actually acquires the whole promotion, and one who said that Impact has tried to "repair the broken bridge" that exists between the two companies, and while the gesture was appreciated, didn't change much.

IMPACT Wrestling hosts their Slammiversary event this weekend at 8 PM EST on pay-per-view. Fightful will have full, live coverage of the show.

Sounds like a better home if Impact can make a deal, how big of a channel is AXS? From UK so don't get the channel but am curious what the reach of it is.

Don't know the exact number, but AXS is in a decent number of homes for a premium cable channel. IIRC the NJPW match recap show that airs on it averaged about 300K-500K per episode. Not saying Impact will necessarily get the same, more, or less, but that's a decent idea of what's possible. Any fucking thing is better than Pursuit and Twitch. Not that the Twitch experiment in of itself is a bad idea, but they just need better right now.

It's just gonna bounce from station to station till it dies isn't it? It's been downhill ever since Spike and it has shown in their content. AxS might be in more homes, but it doesn't mean they'll be tuning into this. I wish them luck though, maybe one day I can find them watchable again.

So by my count, this would be the sixth channel for Impact/TNA (FSN, SpikeTV, Discovery America, POP, Pursuit, and now AXS if the deal goes through).

They just won't die, will they? I kind of admire that spunk to stay alive despite everything, but I don't know how they've survived this long.

Cheers dude. Yea 100% agree that anywhere would be better the Pursuit, the fuck ups and lack of reach will kill any chance Impact has if it stays there for too long. I wonder if they'll keep experimenting with twitch if they make the deal, no harm in doing so imo.

That's your opinion which is cool. In my opinion and many others they've been putting on the most entertaining product right now overall. Their content right now is some of the best they've ever put out ever since Don came in. So tell me, what's so unwatchable about their current product? I'm just interested because a lot of people talk out of their asses when it comes to TNA. Not saying you are one of them yet.

Till it dies? Man what the hell is wrong with wrestlling fans? How long have people been saying this? Why would they die when they are doing better than all of these other small promotions that aren't doing jack shit but still hanging around? They at least have TV and some international deals which is a lot better than a lot of companies out there.

I swear half the problem with Impact is the fans who don't give it a chance because of their past. Wrelsting fans today aren't fans of good wrestling their fans and marks of promotions no matter how good or bad their content is. It's sad

It's fucking hard to have a successful wrestling show in todays market, especially with the past TNA has had that's reputation still effects Impact today. They should be commended for the turnaround the've done.

This is great news. The marks can try to spin it in a negative way all they want. Doesn't change the fact.

I like how you ask for an opinion, then give me the usual diatribe pro Impacter's spin out. I've given them chance after chance for fucking years now, so I'm not just one of the cretins wanting it to die. End of the day It'll only go to so many broadcasters before they end up just saying no to it.

I've tuned in a couple times this year, and every single time I've ended up switching it off. Everything from the roster, the staging and the crowds are completely off putting to me as a viewer. They don't have anybody I can't watch somewhere else any given Sunday. They have zero names of interest to the casual viewer. I happened to pop it on last time to see Scarlett Bordeaux and Fallah Bahh hanging around doing not much of anything, and when they did it was one of the worst tag team matches I've ever watched. They're still doing this James Mitchell/Rosemary shit, that would've been corny 20 years ago let alone now. Bringing Havok back like she's some sort of star.

You like it? Good for you. But it's not for me. I watched TNA every week up until 2010. This is a dried up old husk.

Re: Report: Impact Wrestling And AXS Negotiating TV Deal

I'm enjoying Impact a lot right now. They're doing some good things.

I think Tessa Blanchard is the best women's wrestler in the world right now.

I hope they find success at their new TV home.
