Fight Network now available in the UK, showing Impact Wrestling content

If you have the Sky tv platform go to Info TV, channel 192. Basically Fight Network are renting space on there every night. They have been showing kickboxing, Impact Wrestling programming including Xplosion, British Boot Camp and I understand they will be simulcasting the weekly Impact show on Thursday nights with repeat showings on Friday and Saturday nights. The +1 version of Info TV can be found on channel 292.

The picture quality isn't as good as it can be but it's free and Impact is being shown earlier on there than on 5Spike. If you prefer HD quality just wait for the show to be uploaded to My5 after it has aired on 5Spike on Friday nights.

Not complaining but it's bizarre that spike is allowing impact to be shown on 2 networks. They must be getting it at a bargin price

I would imagine that Spike didnt pay for an exclusive contract when they renewed due to the poor ratings. They obviously didnt pay as much as they didnt get the PPVs this time. (thats all assuming its not a barter deal like POP in the states)

The ratings for w/e 8th July were below 105,000. Only the top 10 are shown on BARB site for general public which were as follows.

SPARTACUS 212000
BLACK SAILS 174000
TRUCKING HELL 171000
GERONIMO : AN AMERICAN LEGEND (before break for news) 140000
POLICE INTERCEPTORS 135000
THE TEXICAN 124000
AIRWOLF 120000
CRIMINALS CAUGHT ON CAMERA 1070007
GERONIMO : AN AMERICAN LEGEND (after break for news) 107000
POLICE INTERCEPTORS 105000

Note that Police Interceptors, Airwolf and Criminals Caught on Camera are all repeats - not sure about the rest.

Id guess the ratings on Fight Network to be even lower due to a combination of :

1. Its position on the EPG. I personally never go that low if looking for something to casually watch.

2. It having Showcase as the EPG name. Confusing for people. Very few channels that have rented space on Showcase have gone on to full channel launches AFAIK. Only one I can think of is a country music channel. Casuals will go down guide and think "oh it says 161 but thats Showcase on mine.... oh well". Only people who already are fans will be aware its there.

3. Its availability - not on Virgin, Freeview, BT, Talk Talk etc

4. (On Freesat - not sure about Sky) the inability to series link.

5. (On Freesat) no +1 channel.

6. How many people are seriously bothered about watching it live at 1am? Fridays and Saturdays at 9 are mostly dead slots as most of its intended audience are probably out.

7. Is it still being shown on the GWN app as well live? That will eat into viewership for Fight Network UK too.

Hate to be a negative nancy as I like Impact but I cant see many watching... If less than 100K watch on Spike which is on all platforms, this one in theory has to get less.

I don't agree that most people are out on Friday and Saturday nights. Going out and drinking is an English thing. The UK has people of other backgrounds, people who are happy to stay indoors spending time with family.

The viewership on 5Spike was decent when it was in the 9pm slot. They managed to reach the top 10 on a few occasions. When they moved it to 10pm then 11pm they sealed their fate. I think most people find other ways to watch. The good thing with the launch of Fight Network would be that the channel can generate income through the ads.

If ratings were decent (and it was generating advert sales) it wouldn't have been moved out of primetime to be replaced with repeats. That's not how tv works. If something is getting decent ratings, you don't cripple it by moving it to a dead slot.

I accept not everyone is out on a Friday Saturday night (I'm not) but a lot of the intended audience are...

You also have to take into account that the trend is now towards watching on demand rather than live. Figures have been released showing that Netflix/Amazon/Now have more subscribers than Pay Tv. People now want to watch things when they want to. Showcase doesnt have an on demand (or even a +1 on Freesat). Other than watching it when they want, the other option is to record it - they dont have series link (on freesat anyway) so why would I record it from there when i have to manually set it each week? I may as well carry on with demand5.

Also everyone with Showcase already has Spike. Not everyone with Spike has showcase... What reason is there for me to watch it on Showcase (with lower PQ) other than if I want to stay up and watch it live (i truly believe the majority dont - just the hardcore fans) or see it 2 hours earlier?

If people are desperate to see it early it can be seen on the net (illegally i accept) 6 hours or so BEFORE it airs in the US anyway...

Virgin has just lost UKTV channels too. Its their end not Impact's. Virgin are notoriously difficult to deal with.

Sunrise, wrong side of another day,
Sky high and six thousand miles away,
Don't know how long I've been awake,
Wound up in an amazing state,
Can't get enough,
And you know it's righteous stuff,
Goes up like prices at Christmas,
Motorhead, remember me now Motorhead!
