It might seem overrated to you because you're discounting a MAJOR factor into what makes a good match - STORYTELLING. You can't just dismiss it by saying you don't care for it then go on to say you think people are overrating it. Storytelling is something that has to be taken into account when considering whether a match is good or not, and if you simply dismiss it, how are you going to separate the good from the bad?

Re: Best Randy Orton vs. John Cena match

Their Iron Man match was the match of the year in my opinion. Perfect storytelling, great drama. Plus, I cheer like a little girl whenever Cena makes someone tap out. Cena 4 life.

Their other matches in 2009 surprisingly did not do much for me. Hell in the Cell suffered because it was just a normal match and nothing like the other great Cell matches in the past. It seems like Orton really needed the full hour to finally have that epic match he needed to have all year.

I think the I Quit match is crap because it simply was not a very good I Quit match. It may have storytelling but the storytelling was weak for the match it was. An I Quit match is the absolute match that determines more than any other who is the better man.

In their match, Orton decimates Cena but quits as soon as Cena gets on the offence. That was weak. The match itself was nothing more than a highlight reel match for Cena. It showed him in great light and just made Orton look weak. Showing Cena's resiliency to quit is nothing special. It happens every match to a lesser extreme.

What did it do for Orton that we hadn't seen before? Nothing.

What did it for Cena that we haven't seen before? Nothing.

It was just there to make one guy look amazing.

That's why their feud was shit. It was manufactured and you didn't feel anything was really on the line. They have an I Quit, Hell in a Cell and a Iron Man with no dq in succession. The two latter matches happen after one that is basically the end all, be all match since your opponent verbally recognises his inferiority to you.

Yeah, I don't agree with any of that.

Re: Best Randy Orton vs. John Cena match

Doesn't matter if you don't agree. I was showing the other side of the coin. How it's irrelevant about the storytelling of the match because within the context of the match type, and the feud, one can build an opposing argument easily. Just because a match has some form of storytelling or more than other matches doesn't mean it's good. What matters is the storytelling itself. And that's where subjectivity comes into play. So the other poster saying he didn't care about the storytelling shows you how ineffective it was for him, even if he wasn't able to properly state why he felt that way towards it.

I actually agree with him on that point. The story of the match was Orton realizing he was in a match he had no chance of winning. Orton could of hit the RKO on him though a flaming table warped in barbed wire and Cena still would not quit. All it did was try to sell to fans that under any and all circumstances John Cena can't and won't ever quit. Not that entertaining if you ask me.

This explains everything I dislike about John Cena.

Re: Best Randy Orton vs. John Cena match

Alot of people don't know this but the first actual Orton vs Cena match on WWE was in 2005 on the RAW Eddie Guerrero tribute show.

Cena and Orton's ironman match was my favorite. They had to make it anything goes due to the pure fact it would have been a snoozer.
