So who won Wednesday Night Minor League Wrestling?

AEW or NXT?

Didn't watch either. But then I haven't watched any product in a while and still haven't seen much reason to start.

Re: So who won Wednesday Night Minor League Wrestling?

AEW won the ratings.

I can't see NXT until Friday, but I hated the AEW show. Hated it. Indyriffic to the max, bad booking, bad comedy. I hate to say it, but it was as bad as WWE with two major exceptions, one, they're willing to do things that WWE isn't willing to do, like the glass table spot with Moxley and Omega. 2, and most importantly, they actually put the correct people over. That is paramount to why WWE has been falling and falling and falling and falling and falling. It's not the bad booking, it's the absolute refusal to put over the correct people. All these racial hang ups and hatred for charisma and hatred for mic skills, it doesn't exist in AEW. It's so refreshing at least from that angle, but otherwise I can't say that the show was a success as far as actually enjoying the product. It felt very minor league in terms of the angles shot and the feel of the show, even though it had major league production.

I will say of the NXT show, I have seen a gif of the Adam Cole/Matt Riddle match, and it is my personal recommendation to WWE and any other wrestling promotion on Earth that Adam Cole and Matt Riddle be blackballed from professional wrestling for that German Suplex spot. An absolutely hideous mockery of professional wrestling, as bad as anything Ricochet has ever done.

AEW will win the ratings easily as it should on it's debut with the amount of money and promotion behind it.

It's funny because if my prediction on aews numbers are correct combined you are probably looking at close to or the same as raw/nitro combined viewership to start in 95 so exactly that minor league.

Re: So who won Wednesday Night Minor League Wrestling?

Honestly, I didn’t notice too much of a difference, they both had a very indy feel, if that’s your thing.

I’ve never thought much of Cody Rhodes or Omega and I despise the Young Bucks, but I gave it a shot to see what it’s all about and to see what Jericho & Ambrose were up to.

The first thing I noticed was that their roster is f’n small. Really small. The kid Cody wrestled in the opening match looked like he was 14 years old. Bizarre choice to open the show with, considering your trying to appeal to new fans. I almost turned it off during the entrance when this 150lb dude came out wearing a panda hoodie.

The rest of the show was okay, if your a workrate mark. None of the characters really stood out other than Jericho, Ambrose and that MJF guy. The rest of those guys look indy as fuck.

They lost me when their big surprise was goddamn Jack Swagger, lol. Major TNA vibes with these former WWE rejects.

NXT basically presented a tv Takeover show. Their formula now seems to be all workrate, very few characters. The characters/storylines was what made NXT great in the first place. Now it’s ROH with a budget.

Ciampa returned, so that was nice. Before he got hurt he was the best heel in the business. Velveteen Dream cut an interesting promo. Pete Dunne continues to be a nice throwback to actual psychology in his ring work. The rest was the typical spot fest, false finish Meltzer Classic.

I’m not interested in watching another AEW show and with the direction NXT has gone, so I wouldn’t endorse either show right now.

I watched both Shows AEW was decent but it's not as great as some of the AEW marks on the forums make it out to be. NXT I thought had the better wrestling.

Re: So who won Wednesday Night Minor League Wrestling?

AEW will win the ratings to start with because of the hype of being a new thing, but it's all about the long term.

It's easy to get strong numbers on a debut when you're advertising it heavily. The real challenge is keeping fans tuning in every single week and growing your numbers. The WWE is a national brand and has name recognition as THE wrestling promotion in America. They lost 84 weeks of ratings to WCW because WCW had Hulk Hogan who the WWE made into the most famous professional wrestler of all time. Take Hogan out of the equation and Nitro probably wouldn't have done that much against Raw's ratings wise because wrestlers like Bret Hart, The Undertaker, and Shawn Michaels were established on WWF television when Hogan and Savage were there.

Not doing the WWE vs AEW threads other than the ratings threads or natural discussion within other topics.
