Re: Does Vince Russo get too much hate?

Hell yeah he gets too much hate. I mean has he had bad ideas and failures, of course. But so have Heyman, Dusty, and Cornette and their creative minds are respected. I think it's just the simple fact that he is openly dismissive of the in ring that earns him so much hate in our circle. It'd be like expecting movie buffs to respect someone that lives by "ah the script isn't that important bro, it's the moments fans care about" lol

No. Guy is an asshole. As for his writing ability he is not all bad and I agree with his mentality of finding a story line for everyone but he has a lot crap ideas. And I mean a lot of crap.

Re: Does Vince Russo get too much hate?

Idk how folk say he's the worst thing to happen to wrestling. Judy Bagwell on a fork lift is bad, but it's certainly not worse than shit Vince McMahon and Paul Heyman have done

I think it is the fact more of his stuff was shit. I mean Heyman seems obsessed with cucks for example but other parts of the show are good for example

Vince Russo is the most successful writer in the history of the wrestling business.

However, he wrote it like a TV show, so the hardcore fans who want to treat wrestling like a serious sport despise him.

The casual fans love his work without becoming passionate enough about the product to learn who he is.

He claimed that titles were just props and was of the mindset that wrestling should be booked like a TV drama rather than being presented as a competitive kayfabe with characters. He deemed everything as disposable and did not have anything good to say about the fans either. He came across like he thought he was too good for the industry when it was that same industry that gave him a lifeline when other forms of entertainment did not want him.

The guy has no respect for what the men and women of the wrestling industry put themselves through and has no respect for what the fans value about pro wrestling.

Vince Russo is the kind of guy that would destroy the industry and later just laugh it off like it never mattered.
Titles ARE just TV props and the only reason you’d think differently is if you believe it’s real.

Re: Does Vince Russo get too much hate?

I think it should be more balanced. There's nothing wrong with criticizing him for whatever rubbish he wrote, but at the same time I don't see people giving him credit for the good that he did.

This is basically the same argument I have for Vince McMahon as well. Nowadays it seems standard to blame him for any bad segment on TV but I don't see people praising him for the good aspects. Whenever something good happens it's always someone else's merit - despite the fact that the narrative goes that Vince oversees everything.

I understand folk don't like Russo's creativity. But considering all the real world negatives attached to Heyman and Vince McMahon, I don't see a reasonable way for Russo to be worse. Russo at worst is a shit creative with an asshole streak, McMahon and Heyman are much worse.

This proves that you don't know much about him, because he's constantly talking about how the wrestlers should be more cautious with their bodies and pull back on the ridiculously dangerous stunts just to get a "This is awesome" chant and a 5 stars from Meltzer. He wants them to work smart so that they have a long and healthy future ahead of them.

Most of today's core fanbase don't give a shit about this kinda thing, and will pop when Gargano gives Cole a Canadian Destroyer off the 3rd rope that comes within an inch close of paralysis. Encouraging this crap to continue is a lot more disrespectful than warning about the dangers of working stupid.

Re: Does Vince Russo get too much hate?

Russo deserves his place in history.

He was the first guy to come along and treat wrestling live a TV show, which, for better or for worse, changed the business and gave us the Attitude Era, which fit in perfectly well with the culture of that time period.

However, the criticisms against him are valid. His obsession with doing things just for shock value and doing things that can't possibly add intrigue to a match created examples of bad writing/booking for a wrestling show and it deserves to be called out.

My overall take on Russo is that he is an idea guy that likes to throw shit out there to see what sticks which can be great, but you need someone to look over his work and guide his material into the right direction.
