Re: David Beniot banned from attending WWE events backstage
I remember a few years ago, there was a thread about him getting into the business. And for some strange reason, people felt he deserved an opportunity with WWE, irrespective of what his father did because it had nothing to do with him. But, the idea of him getting an opportunity with WWE is entirely based on who his father was. If he was some random guy off the street that had those same aspirations, I'm certain the energy wouldn't be the same.
Always thought that was weird. Even more so because the kid, at that point, was still a kid (had yet to finish high school) and had yet to even have a match.
That being said and to my knowledge, he still hasn't had a match yet. Last I heard, about five years ago, he was supposed to make his debut in Calgary. Chris Jericho found out about it and was pissed because David had yet to be trained and made them (I believe Harry Smith) stop advertising him. Since then, it's been rather quiet. Apparently, he was enrolled in Lance Storm's school but never really showed up.
I don't know. Maybe he's ready now. But, you have to crawl before you walk. From everything I've read, I get the vibe that he came out the womb wanting to run. And I get that but I do believe that comes with even more pressure than what is already (unfairly) placed on him, specifically because of who his father was in the ring and what he did out of it.
Re: David Beniot banned from attending WWE events backstage
I feel for the guy because he's done nothing wrong, but I can see why they don't want him on their roster. He is literally the spitting fucking image of his father, to the point where they would have to acknowledge it.
As for him not being allowed backstage, probably because he's close with Jericho and Vince is petty.
On a serious note, imagine if a few years later, when Chris Jericho decides to retire, if David Benoit is the one to retire him. One of Jericho's closest friend's son ending his career. That would be so poetic. As someone who's a huge fan of Jericho, I would love that. That is of course if AEW signs David Benoit and he proves himself as a great talent.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaannnd?
No but seriously, why should he be allowed backstage at WWE events? He's not employed as a main roster WWE Superstar (spit), doesn't have a developmental contract, doesn't have a production job, hell, he's not even working concessions.
A moron said:
"Oh but other non contracted wrestlers get to go backstage so why not him?"

Because that is a privilege that WWE can extend or withdraw at their own discretion with no explanation required.
Seriously, if AEW said no to someone’s son who came to an AEW event wanting backstage access while decked out in WWE gear would it be spun as a ‘mean ol’ AEW’ story?
EDIT: Agreeing with the post above — if he wants to work in WWE, did he ever go to a tryout? Has he seriously trained? Wouldn’t it be better for him to go to some obscure lower-tier indie promotion and get some experience?
Hey, maybe he’s got ability. Maybe he’ s a natural. But what his father did (to his family and himself) aside, when you look exactly like your father who was one of the best technical wrestlers of all time AND carry his name, people are going to have high expectations when you step in the ring that you should be WAY above average as a worker.

I'm one of the first guys to take any excuse to shit on WWe... but if you can't see why WWe would prefer not to have David Benoit associated with the company then your just being obtuse.

I agree. I perfectly understand this idea that david should not suffer as a result of his father but its rather understandable why wwe would not want any kind of association with chris benoit. They have for the most part not mentioned chris benoit at all since 2007. His existence only remaining untagged on the network.
WWE generally caught a lot of negative backlash over that whole affair, even as far as being partially blamed for what happened and have made every attempt to distance themselves from him. I highly doubt they would go back on that by inviting his lookalike son into the fold.
Im not saying its correct to punish david but I can perfectly understand why wwe would not want him around. The whole thing is very muddy and hard to navigate. Its a headache not worth getting.

I understand why WWE doesn't want him to on their roster. Guy did nothing wrong, but if he is allowed to wrestle, or associate with them, they fear people would look him up, found out about his father and it would be bad for them. I can't say I blame WWE for this.
I always wondered tho what if somehow Benoit was the one to end Taker's Streak, how diff would WWE be, they would pretend Streak never even existed to begin with lol.
