King of the Ring a success or nah?

Regardless of how you feel about the winner do you think KotR was a success? There was some iffy booking but almost all of the matches were good-great but I know there's a large section of this forum that doesn't give a crap about in-ring action so is that alone enough to consider it a success? Do you feel like they did a good enough job of making it feel important factoring in that the finals weren't on ppv nor was the main event of Raw? Did they make any new stars or at least open your eyes to somebody you had been sleeping on? If you're somebody upset by the outcome did it ruin the entire thing for you?

IMO I thought the tournament was great, I didn't skip any of the matches even the ones with people I'm not a fan of. The only thing that really bothered me was the fuckery behind Elias' win and the interjection of Shane. I'm good with Corbin winning although I would have preferred a face winning just because I don't want to see the 942785th king gimmick. I feel like by doing that the whole tournament became an excuse to give Corbin a new gimmick instead of it being an accolade on it's own like Royal Rumble and the G1 Climax used to be.

I hope they do it again next year but it won't be about the gimmick.

It was good enough have at least one thing to wait for the RAW after a PPV. Live crowd also was at its highest during the final too.

Tournaments in pro wrestling, when done right are the best thing.

I like it and thought it was cool but I'm still a bit sad Gable lost.

I think winning and "saving" the WWE universe from King Corbin might have gotten Gable over. Personally I thought that Buddy Murphy should've won since he had the most momentum going into the tournament, people went from not knowing his name one week to chanting it the next. If he had won WWE would've had a new star, especially if he beat Corbin in the finals. But of course WWE didn't capitalize, he lost in the first round and got sent back to the catering club SMDH.

Thought it was bland, having it on a episode of raw makes it feel insignificant, it hasnt done anything for Corbin character, for me king of the ring only works when there is a PPV dedicated to it because it actually makes the tournament mean something rather than just a throw away tournament to fill the TV shows and more importantly when you have a PPV event based on it it can really legitimise wrestler if they have to wrestle a few times in one night, look at when Bret, owen and stone cold won it, I prefer Bret's king of the ring tournament as he had to go through 3 matches in one night to win it.

Re: King of the Ring a success or nah?

My quick thoughts: It was better than I expected with some good wrestling along the way. Final should have been co-main at Clash of Champions if they really wanted it to mean more. KOTR is usually remembered by how the champion is booked afterwards, so we will have to see. I just fear they will turn Corbin into King Corbin complete with crown and cape, and that's all there will be to his character and next few feuds.

Spoiler for GOAT Meeting:

No, I thought the whole point of the King Of The Ring was it going to help the new guys. Question for you did it really help Buddy Murphy, Ali or Chad Gable?

Yeah Buddy Murphy did have 2 good matches. Guess What, I still don't give a fuck about him.

Chad Gable want to the final. Great he didn't saying anything interesting when he was winning. "I'm glad I won the match and I am going to fight again next week" Oh thanks Gable, how fucking mind blowing.

The problems with having the tournament over the course of one night is first audiences have significantly lower attention spans than they did in the 80's and 90's, with no stories or promos/vignettes to break up the be monotony audiences are guaranteed to check out. Second, there's nobody over enough that audiences would be okay with seeing wrestle 3 times in a night and there would be 2 of them, plus the 2 semi finals losers who would wrestle twice that night. I think that all makes for the most bored, disinterested crowd we've ever seen.

KOTR is no longer what it once was. As has been said, when it had a PPV dedicated to it, it was significant. Now it's just a series of matches every week to fill some time.

Not a fan of tournaments, but the matches were cool. Hard to judge it's success now though. What Corbin and Gable are doing 2 months from now will determine the success of it for me.
