As long as your TV doesn't count on the ratings I guess it's fine. I'd question the wisdom though of keeping it on as background noise if you were a Neilsen household though
I wonder how many people are similar to you here, because I suspect there’s a large portion of viewers who only keep watching because of all the post-show internet entertainment related to the show.
I know I’ve skimmed over episodes purely because I know I’ll enjoy a 3 hour Wade Keller review podcast while I’m at the gym the next day where he’s just bitching about every aspect of the show.
Throughout the week, there’s a few low-energy forms of entertainment I use related to WWE, and they’re definitely 10x more entertaining than the actual show.
Mate, seriously, if you dislike the product or even wrestling in general, stop watching it. There is nothing wrong with that.
This is a thing I don`t understand about many people I read in the internet (it is not just wrestling) anyway: why sticking with free time stuff, if you started to hate it? Is it a bad habit you cannot get rid of?
Choose something else to spent your free time or to listen in the background. Simple story. I am pretty sure, without knowing you, you will find something else you like much more. Best of luck!
I quit watching years ago. And when I hear about a geek like Rollins beating a potential monster like Strowman, it just reaffirms why. And they wonder why they have no real stars.
I only watch NXT now, haven't sat and watched a Raw/SD since Austin made his first return this year. If there's something that interests me, I'll just check it out on YouTube.
Just watch the people you enjoy and tune out the rest. For example tonight I watched Corbin vs. Gable and cant even tell you anything else thats even happened.
It's been background noise the past few years. I keep it on and watch the wrestlers I want to see, and just ignore most of the rest. Sometimes I'll chat with some people about it and watch a bit more than usual, but for the most part I don't watch a majority of it.
This was me in like 2012-2013. I would have it on, but I'd be on my laptop the whole time doing other stuff. Then the whole "YES Movement" thing happened in 2014 and got me interested, and I got on here and that gave me something to be invested in for a bit. I finally gave up the ghost in 2016 though. Now I just come back here sometimes mainly to look at the classic wrestling section.
But I'm telling you, just let it go. It feels better when you finally turn the channel. You might feel a little anxious the first couple weeks not watching because it is weird to give up on something that's been such a habit (I was a fan since like 1989) but once you realize you're not missing out on anything, it will feel like a weight has been lifted off you shoulders.
Watching WWE now is like watching your 0-16 football team find new ways each week to disappoint you. This week it was Cedrick Alexander’s burial and another main event Strowman loss. I stop watching for a bit then I jump back in only to be even more disappointed again.
CM Punk just walked out and quit WWE, The Authority was a thing that began to overtake the TV time that other talent could have used, Evolution (for some reason) returned to lukewarm results, Daniel Bryan (while becoming champion at WM XXX) had a forgettable title reign to which it led to his injury and initial retirement the year after, the Shield (who just turned babyface and were white-hot) break up a year or two before they needed to which led to the awful 2015 Seff World title reign and the force of Roman Reigns down fans' throats, and the Wyatts were beginning to break up and become underutilize after Wyatt lost to Cena at WM XXX for no fucking reason.
It was the year I officially stopped supporting or watching WWE at a full-time basis. Ever since I've canceled my Network subscription, I haven't bought merchandise from them, haven't put on WWE TV to give them a rating (or even watch RAW/SD/NXT on a full, weekly basis), took on & off breaks from wrestling in general.
The product began to deteriorate for me five years ago and it has gradually gotten worse. Especially now. This is one of the worst years I have ever seen from WWE. They've tried everything. Wildcard rules, McMahon involvement, nostalgia reunion shows, "celebrity" cameos and guest hosts, random title changes and alignment turns, bringing back relics to save the show from a creative aspect (Heyman/Bischoff), pointless NXT call ups that haven't materialized, draft lottery to prepare the SD to FOX move.
Nothing has worked. The WWE fanbase has shrunk year by year and the ratings/live show attendances have reflected upon that. There are no new stars in this company. It only survives through its legacy and namesake within lucrative TV and Saudi deals. I keep tabs by reading the reports or seeing few GIFS/YT highlights on matches/segments I care about (and there isn't much to care about).
The bottom is going to fall out sooner than most expect, even with the money deals they have acquired. Football is going to massacre them this Fall season and now you have a newcomer in AEW added to the equation. It's going to be a harsh reality for the drones/geeks, contrarians, and fanboys who want to keep false hoping that this company cares enough to get better. They won't.
This too. I quit watching before all the Saudi stuff started coming to a head, but I've paid attention to it. And as long as they have that deal with the Saudis I will not be watching anything WWE except maybe old stuff from the 80s and 90s. And I'll torrent that.
I dont even watch it anymore than clicking on some youtube video here and there. I just laughed at the mainevent looking at WWE youtube channel today.
WWE truly sucks and probably have for over a decade now. This whole decade has been more trash, year after year. It's getting worse. I don't even know how that's possible.
I ask myself more and more why I'm watching this crap. I generally fall asleep to Raw or Smackdown. Once AEW starts, it will probably be bye bye to WWE for me.
I have mostly quit on WWE already, I only catch YouTube clips and read results now in the hope that a product turnaround happens but as displayed on last night's dumpster fire RAW it isn't happening let's be honest.
They claimed to be "listening to us and promising change" back in December , do you all remember that openly promoted whopper?
Fast forwards to RAW last night and how foolish do you feel if you actually believed them, although I am sure most did not buy it anyway.
They will never change or care what fans really want.
