Why does WWE love so much to present their current roster as inferior to past talent?

Deliberately, they bring Austin back to sell the product, they put him in the ring with their blandest FOTC ever, Seth Rollins and make blatantly obvious who is the star of that show and how much a difference there is between the product they are giving in and the product they used to give. DIDN'T EVEN MAKE an effort to make Rollins equal too Austin, at least for that night.

I KNOW they do that on purpose, because they always threat old talent like the big shit, Taker, Goldberg always look like gods walking among peasants. If you watch the smackdown on FOX promotional videos, they used like for attitude stars and two presents.

WHY do they like to make so much emphasis on the fact that their current roster is shit and will never be as good as their old glories? How does that benefits them? Specially because they always try to sell matches like BIGGEST IN HISTORY and so kind of bullshit.. It is a big contradiction because YOU ARE ALWAYS telling us your roster is shit and old legends are gods compared to them.

For a business standpoint, they should do the opposite, as bad as their current roster is, they should try to sell it as if they were the greatest of all time, they should tell us Rollins is better than Austin and no the opposite, even if we know it's a big ass lie, but they should never stop trying to be better than they used to be.

It’s a viscous circle of stupidity.

WWe doesn’t want, nor likely have to ability, to make new stars or compelling story lines —> Ratings decrease because no one gives a fuck about a show with no stars and no good story lines —> WWe brings in old stars for a “bandage on a wound that needs stitches” ratings bump —> WWe needs to feed the old stars someone, so they use one of there nonstars, makes the old star look good and the old star goes away having buried a potential new star because—> (repeat)

The same stupid circle, over and over and over again.

It is not Austin's (greatest WWE made personality ever) fault that Seth & Braun are bland as fuck & couldn't keep up with him on mic.

It's horrible that we see talent today look star struck at the older talent/legends. And that's fine to do back stage when the cameras are off but watching Seth Rollins geek out over Austin and DX made me embarrassed to be a wrestling fan... It's so bad! The man should be getting up their face creating moments in history not sharing beers and smiling like a kid getting to meet their idol. No one is gonna look back and say 'man do you remember that time when Seth Rollins shared a beer with Austin and looked all doe eyed at him'

Are WWE purposly making Seth Rollins a geek. I used to dismiss people on this forum when they used to call Rollins a geek, but I think WWE embraced it. It's beyond the cringedome.

At least Bray Wyatt came out choking Mick Foley putting Wyatt over, can you imagine if he came out and out of character said how much he loves him and idolizes him. Least they are booking someone right.

True At least they're being self-aware for once, but that just begs the question: why the hell do they keep on presenting us a mediocre product with stars who are anything but larger than life? It's like they're just doing it on purpose.

I think OP brings up a great point, I guess on the flip side though if they made a guy like Austin look like a geek, he probably wouldn't want to return in the future. I doubt he needs the money. It's a debatable matter though, at this point, merely having Austin do a promo on the show really isn't going to draw in viewers anyway. Really the smartest thing they can do is not even have him come out in the first place and focus on creating new stars. It doesn't help that Rollins is boring as hell lol. I mean they could resurrect the corpse of Andre the Giant and have him face Seth Rollins on RAW and it still wouldn't draw viewers at this point. Really is past time that they started working on a new FOTC.

Re: Why does WWE loves so much to present their current roster as inferior to past talent?

Austin just let Becky Lynch stun him on his own show, and sold the Hell out of it as well. He doesn't have a problem putting someone over IF he thinks that it makes sense, even more so now that he's long-retired. Given what he's said about AJ in the past, I doubt that Austin would mind giving AJ the rub for example.

WWE is stuck in a vicious cycle. For the most part, they suck a telling compelling stories or building up new stars, so they rely on nostalgia pops more and more to keep people interested. But ironically, it makes it even harder to build new stars when you constantly have them getting punked out by these middle-aged retirees.

Remember when legend after legend, not named Hulk Hogan, lined up to put Randy Orton over because they saw potential in him? Yeah WWE doesn't know how to do that anymore it would seem. I mean they're kind of doing it with The Fiend TBF, but having The Fiend attack Austin was such a no-brainer that it's baffling that they didn't do it?

Well the current roster is pretty inferior. Hell the Ruthless Agresssion Era roster blows them out of the water, let alone the Attitude Era.

It's gotta do with past stars not putting over present stars enough... Past stars after reaching Stardom almost always left

And if some past stars do wanna put over talent, WWE wants them to put over almost 4 or 5 talents within span of a year making it pointless
