Mandela effects in wrestling?

For those of you who don't knwo what the Mandela effect is:

Quote:
"The Mandela Effect is an observed phenomenon in which a large segment of the population misremembers a significant event or shares a memory of an event that did not actually occur. Fiona Broome, a paranormal researcher, coined the term to describe collective false memory when she discovered that a significant number of people at a conference she was attending in 2010 shared her memory that Nelson Mandela had died in prison during the 1980s. In fact, the former president of South Africa was released from prison in 1990 and was very much alive at the time of the conference."
I can think of two different ones I've experienced:

Hogan vs. Warrior at WM6: I remember Warrior kicking out of the Atomic Leg Drop... but turns out he didn't. He dodged it. Hogan never gets to hit the Atomic Leg Drop in that match.

Kane's debut: "THAT'S GOTTA BE KANE!" ...for ages I remembered JR saying that line, but it was actually Vince McMahon who said it. But I still have JR's voice in my head whenever I remember that line. Really strange.

What about you?

Re: Mandela effects in wrestling?

There was one where I thought Virgil actually won the IC title. For a long time I remembered there was a huge celebration for it and the crowd going nuts.

I had this memory for most of the 90's until I was discussing it with friends, and they were telling me that never happened, and I was adamant to tell them otherwise, I thought they were messing around with me. Back then there was no internet and no youtube and no wikipedia, so there was little way of proof. I went a while believing that Virgil once won the IC title. I think it was in the late 90's when I got the internet when this thought came across my mind again, and joined wrestling chat rooms and message boards. They helped me put 2 and 2 together and made me relaise it never happened.

So for like 10 years I believed otherwise. The mix up was it was the million dollar title he won. Even though I knew this. I knew the he won the million dollar title but between that there was a huge mix up with me believing he was IC champion too around this time. I do actually still get flack for this from my friends too :P :P

For the longest time I thought Kane's nickname was the big red monster instead of the big red machine.

Re: Mandela effects in wrestling?

So this is one that i'm not sure counts, as I'm not sure if it happened or not. Maybe someone can help me out here. I have a memory of a fatal 4 way tag team match involving The New Age Outlaws and 3 team that I can't remember. At some point in the match both members are unknowingly both tagged into the match, end up backing up into each other, turn ready to throw hand before holding back. I don't remember which way it went but one of them dropped down and the other pinned him and they rolled out with the win (and loss?).
Does anyone else remember this match?

It was. For a while they were in a trademark dispute with the Cincinnati Reds and were calling Kane the big red monster.

Now let’s head to the June 8th 1998 episode of Raw. Sgt. Slaughter, who was still WWE Commissioner at this point, booked a triple threat Tag Team Title match pitting champions The New Age Outlaws (Billy Gunn & Road Dogg) against LOD 2000 (Hawk & Animal) and DOA (Skull and 8-Ball).

Now to the fun part. After several minutes of unremarkable action, one of the DOA tagged Billy Gunn into the match to oppose Road Warrior Animal. Tiring of The Outlaws shenanigans, Animal also tagged out of the match, only he tagged Road Dogg. Partners being tagged into these kinds of matches together was not new; it happened to The Headbangers at WrestleMania 13. On that occasion Mosh and Thrasher just danced around for a bit before tagging out. This time, however, The Outlaws appeared to be stumped until Chyna – who was at ringside with them – whispered something in Road Dogg’s ear. Dogg then re-entered the ring and was told by the referee to engage with Billy and start wrestling. That he did, but in one fluid motion he threw himself to the ground allowing Billy to pin him, who therefore won the match for his team and retained the Tag Team Titles in the process. Somewhat suspiciously, the referee did not hesitate in counting the pin and such was the fluidity of the angle the other teams genuinely did not have time to get in and break up the pin.

Lol I didn't know that was Vince saying "That's gotta be Kane!" For some reason I always thought it was JR as well.

I don't know for sure, it's hard to say. When a story constantly rewrites it's own history, it makes Mandela effects hard to pick out.

Never more true, Never forget.

Re: Mandela effects in wrestling?

Don't know if this counts, but I rewatched Money in the Bank 2011 and was surprised to hear "This Fire Burns" instead of "Cult of Personality". Obviously when I thought about it, he got this theme when he left and came back a couple of weeks later, but I just associate that song with this era so strongly in my head! As the crowd, we're chanting his name I was waiting for that song!

Re: Mandela effects in wrestling?

It does sound off hearing Vince say that. Doesn't sound right at all. Sounds like something JR would say.
