It's a double-edged sword for me. He definitely adds star power and the crowd seems really into it when his music hits and he does the spear and jackhammer, but on the other hand he's yet another reminder that WWE needs to rely on middle aged part timers to get a buzz around their product these days. I don't blame Goldberg for it, though.

I remember when people shat on Goldberg online calling him boring and a one trick pony compared to the other top stars of his generation. Well now he's probably one of the most interesting things of modern day WWE. His presence alone outshines 90% of WWE's current roster.

I don't mind Goldberg. His matches are short as they get and his moves are pretty cool to watch. As someone who didn't grow up in the MNWs days, it's cool to get a chance to watch Goldberg wrestle live on TV.

Nostalgic run as a way of getting more views and eyes on the product.

They almost forgot about him entirely before he returned to face The Undertaker too. Was all a bit weird. He literally came back, squashed Brock Lesnar in a fun match, won the belt from Kevin Owens and then lost the belt to Brock Lesnar at Mania and I am confident they didn't mention him again for 2 years when he was booked at the Saudi show.

Match with Taker was a waste of time and one of the worst things I have ever seen and I am not really sure why he's having matches with Ziggler in 2019 - but hey, he's probably getting paid mega bucks so fair play to him.

To think that last year I made a thread about the biggest feuds WWE failed to book and listed Taker vs. Goldberg as one of them...

I mean for a nostalgia run it was fine I guess though I didn't care lacking any nostalgia for him I just saw an old man in the ring. He never needed the belt that was stupid and the Taker stuff what can I say about that that people haven't already said but outside of those details honestly his run was fine.

Aside from the match with Taker, it has gone about as well as any old WCW fan could hope. They booked Goldberg effectively and true to his former self, and he did bring some excitement to the show.

However, it makes me wonder what would happen if they put half as much care into some of their full time talents. They won't be able to rely on guys like Goldberg forever.

Re: What do you think of Golderg's run in WWE since his return in 2016?

I liked his recent run since 2016 much more than when he was full-time.

I think Goldberg is being booked perfectly. He's a special attraction and that's how you get the most value out of him.

Use him to elevate product and put over a current guy in a big feud? CHECK - he did it with Lesnar at mania after a few months of build (now whether Lesnar should be considered a current guy is debatable, but he is current for WWE, and remained champ for a while after, so from that point of view it works). When Goldberg loses and puts someone over it should be a big thing - and a world title change at the mania main event is a big thing.

Use him for dream matches in big shows? CHECK - Taker/Goldberg. It was actually a really awesome matchup for a show like Saudi, one where they want to rely on legends a lot. The match completely sucked - everyone knows it - but i still think the matchup itself was intriguing. I much prefer Taker vs Goldberg at Saudi than Goldberg vs.....someone like Drew or Corbin.

Use him in squash matches (his bread and butter) against good sellers who can afford the loss (ie - Ziggler)? CHECK. Summerslam was a great match/feud for him. Short and sweet. Ziggler is famous for putting people over and being a great seller - can afford the loss - makes the crowd happy, fun quick match.

I actually think they've done a great job of booking him - and overall he's performed pretty well too (minus the Taker disaster match).

Re: What do you think of Golderg's run in WWE since his return in 2016?

His 2016-17 run was fun and a worthy addition to his career, aside from the KO squash. That still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but I understand them wanting to limit and protect Goldberg as much as possible heading into WM.

The Taker match was obviously horrid, and generally served no purpose. Taker didn’t benefit from it, but Goldberg definitely took a hit aura-wise. The Dolph match was a way to just help build Goldberg back up. I think we all know that we’re in all likelihood heading to a Reigns/Goldberg match down the road..

The Goldberg/Taker matchup is a fantastic one tbh.

They definitely messed the match up a lot though.

His squash against Lesnar was awesome.
He DID NOT need the Universal Title however. That should have saved for Jericho v Owens.

It's been fun, he should have never won the Universal belt though.
