Did The Undertaker ruin his legacy?
Is it safe to say now ?
Undertaker is one of the most appreciated and respected wrestler in the industry. But it doesn’t change the fact that he’s been mediocre to bad for half a decade (since Mania 30) and I don’t expect him to get better.
I know 5 years out of 29 isn’t that much, but when you look at Taker’s body of work throughout his whole career, he has alot of shitty years under his belt on a « in ring performance » perspective : 1990 to 1995 were shit, such as 99 to 01 and now since 2014 he’s been horrible for the most part. Overall, that’s about 12 years of relatively bad performances, you can’t ignore that.
Now, should we really give a fuck about wrestlers’ legacies? It’s up to you.
Personally, I wanna have fond memories of my favorite wrestlers that I grew up watching. When I think of Taker now, I see a man who’s a total shell of his own self. When I watch a Undertaker match, instead of enjoying the show, I’m only telling myself : « man don’t collapse, don’t embarrass yourself or don’t botch it ». As a fan, that makes me sad and uncomfortable to watch.
Am I sports entertained? Hell no!
The last five years definitely hurt Taker’s legacy (IMO) and the Goldberg match validated it, but at the same time, he just can’t call it quits after having one of the worst match of all time.
