As wrestling has transitioned away from the big man era, one can look back at the smaller stars of the 1980s and 1990s and wonder what would have happened if they had debued today. Men like Al Perez, Brad Armstrong, and Brady Boone come to mind. As does Dean Malenko.
Malenko’s technical skills were second to none in the 1990s. Size wise he would fit right in with the current crop of NXT wrestlers set to debut on the main roster. And he would have been just as good of a wrestler as Gargano. With workrate now the driving premium, if Malenko were to debut today, would he be merely be a major player, or could he even be the FOTC?
