Following the announcement of AEW’s deal with Turner, let’s flash forward to the debut of Tuesday Night Dynamite. With Smackdown moving to Fridays AEW has the night to themselves. And let’s say that they pull in 1.6M fans for their first show, and settle in at 1.3M to 1.5M afterwards. It’s a big if, but it’s possibke. WWE has shed a lot of fans.

Meanwhile RAW is going up against football and sees its viewership decline to 1.7 - 1.8M - reasonable numbers based on the current rate of decline. At that point they are barely ahead of the Khan team.

Does WWE try to counterprogram against AEW at that point? Perhaps by proposing a new Tuesday night show, or getting USA to show NXT on Tuesdays? I just can’t imagine WWE allowing AEW to have the night to themselves and grow their brand. How do you think they respond?

How many shows do WWE have? Raw, SD, NXT, NXT UK, 205 Live, Main Event?, Superstars?

They are already overexposed af, so it wouldn't surprise me if they throw another show out there.

Yes and it will be as cringe worthy as the rest of WWE programming.

I honestly don’t think so.

WWE’s head is SO FAR up it’s ass I think they’ll just continue pumping out their shitty product without even the slightest change.

Why are you saying that as if it's a hypothetical situation? It's officially 100% confirmed.

This is precisely correct. WWE changes at a glacial pace. If they do anything at all, they'll suddenly start doing hard-hitting sports analysis via the commentary booth (which will suck, because Vince and Dunn will be behind it and they won't understand what they are doing) or they'll put a title back on Brock.

And that's about it. I don't expect any kind of worthwhile changes in WWE until there's a major leadership shakeup.

What if they put up a show against AEW and it causes them to lose more viewers than normal? That's the danger of competing with someone on the same night

People think because WWE is this great big empire with decades of history that everyone will just always watch it over the alternative, but nothing is set in stone. Something like what you're describing might backfire on WWE, if only slightly

well it hasn't stopped just about every other wrestling tv show from doing its thing unimpeded by WWE

WWE might put something up against them on their network to counter it

and who knows maybe it will be for the best, just like the old days
