Re: Will WWE counterprogram AEW?

If I had to guess, I think yes. WWE will counter program AEW.

The only thing that could counter it are RAW, SDL and NXT. Raw isn't moving to Tuesdays, SD is leaving Tuesdays to Fridays which leaves NXT. NXT is probably the best choice anyways, it's beloved and is probably targeting the same audience as AEW moreso than even RAW/SDL are.

But if WWE think they can add a new program to the already over saturated amount of content they already have or put something like 205 Live or Main Event on TV on Tuesdays...well then good luck. No one will tune into that shit. No network or channel will even want that crap.

WWE pushing NXT to cable TV though would be bitter sweet. Sure, it would counter AEW and split the audience and hurt the new company but it could also hurt the WWE Network where NXT is the primary reason anyone subscribes. If the WWE Network loses NXT, it'll lose numerous amounts of subscribers.

I guess we'll see.

Current:
Reigns / Rollins / Cole / AJ / Bray / Owens
Omega / The Elite / Cody
Okada / Jay White

All-Time:
Undertaker / Y2J / Batista / John Cena
Brock Lesnar / Steve Austin / The Rock / Goldberg

WWE won't need to counter program anything. AEW has a massive uphill battle:

All Elite Wrestling TNT Deal | The Negatives

As their “Tuesday Night Dynamite” trademark would suggest, All Elite Wrestling originally had their eyes set on a Tuesday night time slot. However, that doesn’t seem likely to happen at this point. First of all, TNT airs NBA programming on Tuesday and Thursday nights and that’s a much more valuable property than wrestling. It’s not getting bumped for that, so expect to see it on Wednesday unless they want to go head-to-head with WWE.

There’s also no rights fees attached. That doesn’t mean All Elite Wrestling won’t be making money off the television deal, as they do have a revenue split, but it means their performance will be all the more important. They have to bring numbers to advertisers and make their product a brand that people want to be associated with. That’s easier said than done, and they’ll need to perform if they want to negotiate a better deal when this one is done.

Perhaps most troubling is that the deal also revealed that they’re sticking with a traditional pay-per-view structure for their big events. For Double or Nothing, they’re expecting fans to fork over $50 on B/R Live to watch it. That’s a ridiculous amount considering how much cheaper both New Japan Pro-Wrestling and WWE’s streaming services are, and is the opposite of being disruptive. If it was a low-cost deal on B/R Live then they could actually make some waves, but this is more of the same and catering to a niche that is already heavily saturated instead.

The above in addition with AEW's non existent star power and their flippy Indy style, I don't see them drawing more than 200k viewers (IWC smarks). That's around what they got with All In: Zero Hour on WGN. I'm pretty sure Time Warner will expect bigger numbers than that.

AEW could overtake WWE in ratings easily if they are on a big network ike TNT.

It didnt even take WCW that long to get a ratings win over WWF once Intro started. It was only a few months.

And once AEW starts getting more WWE stars, its going to be even bigger.

Ambrose is probably going there as Moxley. Revivia and Club are def. going there once their contract are up. Imagine of Punk signed with them.
WCW was 25 years ago. The amount of wrestling fans in the US is probably less than a 3rd of what is was back then.

I'm just being real and not expect 1.5 million viewers weekly for a wrestling show in 2019. If WWE (a billion dollar brand) is only getting 2 million, the new guys on the block ain't getting 1.5 million.

TNA, the closest competitor from the previous decade, only managed around a million viewers for most of their run as the number 2 promotion, and that was on a major channel as well in Spike.

RAW 2010: 5 million viewers
TNA 2010: 1ish million viewers

That was in 2010. It's almost 2020.

RAW 2019: 2 million viewers
AEW with the same ratings as TNA: 400,000 viewers
TNA was getting better ratings than WWE in the UK at one point

The TV audience is somewhat different than the paying customer. Most people that watch for free on television will never spend a penny on the product anyway, so I don't think a much larger, more established brand getting 2 million viewers means AEW won't be able to reach even 1.5 million or more

If american football has so much rating, why Raw always been on Mondays to begin with...?

American football wasn't played on Mondays back in 1993 or what?

They'll get 200k just from people forgetting to turn the channel over from what they were watching previously.

Try harder.

Lol at flippy indy style and failing to realize that is exactly what WWE has turned into, except a much poorer version of it. Look at your top performers in WWE, Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles. Get a grip and get with the times already.

Re: Will WWE counterprogram AEW?

Is their show really going to be called Tuesday Night Dynamite???

I'm actually looking forward to an alternative to WWE that is easily accessible, but Tuesday Night Dynamite sounds so fucking stupid!

It's a play on Monday Nitro and the the fact it'll be on TNT...

No one knows what their show is going to be called. But that was something they copyrighted early in the year.

Then again, anythings better than "Raw"

I'm certainly not saying that Raw is a good name, but Tuesday Night Dynamite just sounds really cheesy.

Still, if the show is good then I guess it doesn't really matter what it's called
