Argue this idea- Different weekly rosters

Ok so one of the arguments fans have is that talent (eg Sanity) is often left off shows, itís the same matches over and over and the wrestlers are unhappy not being used.

So how about this- Rotating rosters. Week one you have a certain group of wrestlers doing the show, and then the next week you change them out for others and another set of stories. Itís still Monday Night Raw, but two or more shows in the same time slot. Next week back to the first group.

Sort of like if Smackdown and Raw rotated weeks.

Itíd also give talent a chance to rest for a week or so at a time.

Re: Argue this idea- Different weekly rosters

No.

It's actually SUPER simply to fix things.

Hire enough writers (good writers) to write stories for ALL wrestlers involved. Anytime there's a match on TV there needs to be a story - are they fighting for a title, are they fighting to earn a title shot, did someone sleep with his girl, did someone betray a friend, etc. Any story.

Then - when each wrestler/segment has a story behind it on tv, it makes for a much better viewing experience. You can still alternate from week to week. Ex - say Sanity is in a story/feud with...Usos. Well - maybe one week they're on tv, than the skip a week, then present the next 2 weeks, etc. You don't have to always cram everyone onto 1 show.

Doing it the way you suggest would never work though and lead to more issues.

Re: Argue this idea- Different weekly rosters

First of all they don't get a break, they do 2 or 3 house shows a week.

Secondly you could end up with a show with no stars (imagine three hours of jabronies like Miz and Hawkins & Ryder) their ratings would flatline.

Thirdly who's fault is it they're not getting TV time? Is it the writers? Is it Vince? Or are the 'talent' just not good enough?

This is an excellent idea. I've been saying this forever. It cuts down on over exposure, injuries and justified having such a massive roster. This can help build up the divisions tremendously.

not bad. maybe they should also bring back some true jobbers too. i was watching wwf superstars on the network last night and forgot how exclusively they were used. the first 4-5 matches would feature a superstar taking on a brooklyn brawler or such and then you would have 1 or 2 featured matches that would contain TWO superstars going at it. i feel this gave way to a bit more of the story lines too.

you wouldn't have the overexposure (less is more) and you would look forward to the featured match more. today is very much rinse and repeat. predictable. just my take.

This is what NXT does. Not every wrestler is on over show, but they might get a 5 minute promo backstage. There will be a "Next week on NXT..." which advertises the person not there that week.

WWE is completely aware of what you're suggesting op. HHH is already doing it. Why the main roster can't do is ridiculous.

Re: Argue this idea- Different weekly rosters

I've been advocating for something like that for years.

Right now WWE is in this vicious cycle of trying to make every show amazing by having the big stars on but then the stars are always on, get over exposed, are less special, and then the shows don't seem amazing, but if they leave somebody off, it won't be perceived as a worthwhile episode.

But the reason the part timers (Cena, Taker, Lesnar, etc.) make headlines when they show up is because it actually is a big deal when they're there because it isn't a weekly occurrence. Now I'm not saying Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have to be held off of TV for months on end, but they could at least get to that Hogan in his prime level where Hogan would cut promos and do angles on TV, but RARELY wrestle, so when he did, it felt like a big deal and like it was can't miss.

But WWE now has three hours on Mondays to fill and, how do you fill that time? Matches! Matches! Matches! and more Matches! A vast majority of which don't mean anything.

Re: Argue this idea- Different weekly rosters

This would be a creative and booking nightmare.

First, there would be no coherent storylines. Unless you're aiming for sitcom type shows were every week something different arises. Even then, you're writing for dozens of characters, not the same 5 every week. They have enough trouble writing 4 week story arcs.

Secondly, there would be no way for the (TV) audience to connect with the talent if you're pulling them here and there every week. Consistency breeds familiarity.

This is a double-edge sword, but if someone accidentally tunes in and sees Kevin Owens and enjoys his booking/performance that day, where/when will they tune in again to see him? They'll come back the next week looking for Owens and he won't be there. They'll feel like they've wasted their 2-3 hours and say "piss off with this".

Re: Argue this idea- Different weekly rosters

I been arguing for rotating roster for a while, back in 1993 - 1995 WWE used to do this on raw. Raw never featured the same person (for the most part) every week. Alas it was only 1 hour long back then, but it's still something I wouldn't be opposed by today considering the roster is a lot larger now than it was back then. So they need to scale up.

You get less over exposure of wrestlers, meaning more time to rest for wrestlers, which means more better matches, less of the same matches. and you get to see more people. While also giving some story lines chances to breathe. I even think the storylines can still continue every week but without matches being added, make a backstage segment or recorded segment one week, matches the next week. Push for the more important stuff while also exposure the people that are not getting air time.

It;s either rotating roster or a forth brand, and god forbid I don;t want anymore wrestling shows.

key point right there. that anticipation is what keeps people engaged. i also agree with your next point that you could still keep the story lines going with backstage segments w/ out having the wrestlers in the ring that night.

great post!
