When did the term "WWE Universe" officially become the thing to say

Watching the past days of WWE and noticing how much the wrestlers used the word fans or audience back then made me question the WWE Universe thing. This is a legitimate question cause it's been going on for some years now and I just wonder when it actually replaced saying fans/audience, and is there any explanation as to why it started?

I believe it was some time in mid 2012.

Well iirc sometime around 2009 and the reasons why is probably unknown so I guess it's just a fancy way in referring to us fans in general.

It was way before the Authority. I believe even before 2012. I think 2008 or 2009 is right. It's been like over a decade

The WWE even used to run a forum called the Universe Forums which they closed in like 2010 so it had been a term for some time before that.

Why do they do it? It's called branding. It's kind of a silly term, but it's their brand. Their "thing". It's supposed to foster a shared identity around their brand or whatever. And maybe it's worked. Look at how loyal we all are despite all this complaining. We're all part of the universe I guess

Its been a several years as others have pointed out. My best guess is that somewhere down deep in his psyche it has to do with Vince wanting to create his own reality where he is God.

He's come pretty close with the WWE.

I looked this up and the furthest result back that I found was that it was the passcode for callers when they called in to McMahons Million Dollar Mania in 2008.

I didn't realize that it had been that long. It felt like it had only been around for a few years, which makes me feel old as fuck.

During the golden era of Celebrity GMs. I stopped watching WWE after the first couple of months of the new ECW show they were putting out. Decided to give it a try when Bret came back and was really put off by everybody on the roster and on commentary referring to the fans as the double double E Universe.

On a side note, Bret's return was horrible to say the least but at least Shawn and him reconciled. I also got to re-watch the CM Punk-Jeff Hardy rivalry and thought that was the last time they had a genuinely good angle in the Company.
