If someone like Dolph Ziggler is referred to as a “wrestler” then nobody outside the WWE bubble cares or thinks he’s cool. He’s a wrestler. Meh. A lot of people get negative connotations from the word “wrestler”, and it makes you think “you don’t actually wrestle, wrestling is fake”.

They don’t just wrestle, so why should they be “wrestler”?

If you hear he’s a “WWE Superstar” you sit up and take notice.

It’s way better...

A “Superstar” captures the broader entertainment skill set of what these guys actually do. It’s more honest, too, because it’s not a worked job description.

I think it was around 2008/2009 when they turned PG and were REALLY heavy on the marketing and buzzwords. Especially during the guest host era. Not that they arenít now but still.

Curiously, right around the time I started watching a lot less WWE. Like none.

Send lawyers, guns and money.

Around 2008 - 2010. The dark days of WWE. The Cena era, where Cena was the only top face (or at least it felt like it) and the Attitude Era was still trying to die, and celebrity GM's ran rampant and crowds were dead

I don't mind the term WWE Universe.
But it is definitely a sign of WWE going all in on the super WWE branding, going more PG and more corporate which is about a decade ago. Crazy to think that.

Current:
Reigns / Rollins / Bray / Aleister / AJ / Street Profits
Inner Circle / Janela / Omega / Darby
All-Time:
Undertaker / Y2J / Batista / John Cena
Brock Lesnar / Steve Austin / The Rock / Goldberg

WWE + AEW
