Re: Wrestlers need a reason to be there

The thing with the paycheck argument is that a lot of them seem content in just goofing about like they're not actually there to be paid. It's just weird.

I agree with the sentiment. It just doesn't come off that way on TV. I'm sure everyone here does something just for a paycheck and I'm sure a lot of the time, it shows unless you're working for something more ie a promotion or a raise.

A lot of the wrestlers seem content with just being there for being there's sake.

The upper tier make reference to doing this for their family ala AJ this week.

Guys in the middle of the pack? Not so much.

By the way, I meant a reason on TV, not a reason for them to do this in real life. I know why they're there in real life lol.

Forget the booking and management for a minute. I don't care how passionate about wrestling you are. If you are wrestling 50 weeks a year your going to go through several phases of phoning it in. Just working paycheck to paycheck.

I love working in radio but even if it's not as physically taxing I need a break from it occasionally. Wrestlers in WWE don't get that.

I really think this is the reason. If you watched during the Attitude Era you could see the intensity more week to week because they feared that Nitro and WCW would win the war to put them out of business.

They have been on cruise control since around 2003 to be honest. I would say 2002, but even then they seemed to care about having a future with pushing guys like Cena and Brock.

CENA AND BROCK who are STILL THE MOST OVER.

That says it all right there how much cruise control they are in. They don't bother with the nuances anymore either such as 30 day title defenses and things of that sort in kayfabe. It's just easier and less work for them lol.

Maybe I didn’t make it clear enough in the subject. I was speaking clearly from a writing standpoint, not from a passion standpoint.

As in there is a lot of the roster that have no purpose in being there. It doesn’t come off as it’s just a job or they’re there to be great or win a title. Certain guys literally just exist backstage in this “universe” week to week just to be there. There is no end goal for about 90% of the roster.

This thread has zero to do with their real life motivation. Solely their on screen motivations.

My bad for not stating that in the OP.

Oh in that case I agree. But that also comes with a bloated roster. Another reason why it behooves management to rotate talent. Like half get a off season then after you have exhausted all avenues bring in the other half.

Or something better than what I described
