Indeed. The worst is people on here trying to justify Asuka or Nakamura running through the roster because they're "legit".

Re: Being "legit" means nothing in WWE.

It all comes down to perception. When a fan sees a man or woman from a real combat sport who has won multiple legit fights, well it's easy to take them a lot more seriously. Image is also a very big part of pro wrestling and a wrestler who cultivates an image of himself as being a legit ass kicker will have no problem being taken seriously by wrestling fans. It helps Brock Lesnar to be seen as legit because it fuels the beast persona even more.

This. I totally get what you're saying. I had stopped following regularly for several years, but I'd see the toys and whatnot in the stores. In fact, when I saw the Finn Balor toy I thought that it was a cool looking monster gimmick he had going. So when my youngest son "discovers" the WWE, I start watching again, I see Balor, and all I can think is 'THIS is the guy? What is he? 5'10" 190 lbs?"

It's not just the fans. WWE did the whole "Brock Lesnar bringing legitimacy back to WWE" angle when Brock came back in 2012

Yup. And i doubt anyone uses the legit excuse for Sonya Deville when talking about people like Ronda. It's just something that's used for the big name people really.

P.S, i'm not saying that Sonya is on the same level as Ronda when it comes to MMA, but she has an MMA background and has competed in MMA fights before.

Re: Being "legit" means nothing in WWE.

Being legit doesn't mean fucking thing.

But LOOKING legit means everything in wrestling, or at least it does to casuals and smarks who care about physicality and credibility being intact.

You are using the kay word "weight class", Nakamura is smaller than the average top guy, Fin is waay smaller than the average top guy.

And the are no weight classes in WWE.

Re: Being "legit" means nothing in WWE.

Nothing means anything in WWE right now. Feuds are over in minutes and are insignificant. Enemies team up too often. The announcers are chattering dolts 97% of the time and don't actually call matches. But this, and everything else like it has all been said before. I truly wish at some point it would change.
