Paul Heyman Discusses Possibly Working With Other Superstars, The Undertaker, Staying Relevant

Quote:
Paul Heyman did a new interview with The Ringer promoting this weekend’s Survivor Series. Here are the highlights:

Whether he’ll work with people in WWE aside from Brock Lesnar:

“As long as Brock is in WWE. I don’t think it makes sense to work with someone else.”

Managing The Undertaker when he was “Mean Mark” Callous in 1990:

“[He was] shockingly mature for someone so new to the industry.”

Staying relevant in the wrestling business:

“Tell me somebody who was in the NWA who was relevant then and relevant now. Sting’s not. Lex Luger’s not. It’s Ric Flair and Paul Heyman. Tell me someone from that entire era who is relevant today. Vince McMahon. Jerry Lawler. And of all those people that I’ve named, how many of them are in a prominent position on television today? The only one is me. So, how? The manner in which you were treated behind the scenes did not promote longevity. You were going to be used up and spit out. And here I am as the advocate of the number-one attraction, the highest-paid commodity, the top champion on the flagship show in the company that owns 99 percent of the market share. Obviously whatever I was doing back then, that people perceived as career suicide, gave me the ability to survive long enough to have a longevity that no one else enjoys.”

He's right about the Brock thing, the problem when Heyman tried to be with Axel, Cesaro, Ryback, is the fact that he's much over than those guys. So, by default, he overshadowed them with his presence and still trying to put over Brock too in his promos.

When Lesnar leaves, I'm unsure if Heyman will stick around for anything too tbh.

I'm sure they don't even want him. Heyman has never gotten along with the McMahons. Bringing him in was probably a condition by Brock or they just realized it's a necessity because he's one of the worst promos in the history of the business. When he's gone, they'll probably want to get rid of him, and I don't see him as motivated enough to work with somebody else after Brock, since whoever it is will be percieved as a downgrade. Brock has basically killed his managing career, sadly.

You need to be yourself, you can't be no-one else.

I remember heyman saying that he didnt want to come back to wrestling, it was only because brock asked for him to brought back after making a mess of a promo that he actually did, once brock has gone I honestly think he will be as well.

Story goes when Brock did that long promo on Cena in 2012, he immediately told Vince he didn't want to do that shit again and was on the phone to Heyman and told him to get himself a contract.

Which of course happened after ER and Lesnar's long promo days were over.

No doubt he loves working with Lesnar and I doubt he'd commit the time like that to anyone else. He's also said he's not interested in a full time position anymore. I'm also sure they/Stephanie won't cry when he leaves either.
