Lazy writing for #1 Contenders / Championship matches

Pretty much lazy writing in general on just about everything, but especially in the Women's divisions. Whenever they have a match to determine a #1 contender or need a big match for the title, they just throw together a 4 or 5 way match.

Smackdown just had a 4-way #1 contenders match and Raw has a 5-way match this Sunday at No Mercy for the Womens title. Bayley just came back after being out for about a month. How did she earn a shot at the title again?

They also just had an extremely predictable "6 Pack Challenge" #1 contender for the IC title on Raw.

It's just lazy writing at it's finest. It seems they can't write story lines anymore unless you are fighting for a title. No creativity anymore.
Cas Ras likes this.

Not news. It has been this way for ages. It is lazy, but they don't seem to care. It's like the rematch clause it is what it is. Annoying, redundant, senseless, lazy really whatever adjective you choose, but it's just become the accepted way to do things and it's because fans spent time letting them get away with it.

You could argue that the star powers are still intact, but if they continue doing this for another six months, the long-term damage this kind of booking has done to the division may finally begin to show. Essentially, they've been treating the women like they do the tag team division for a while. You rarely see anyone complain about tag teams not getting storylines and character developments that much, because over the years people have been conditioned to think that the tag teams don't matter. The day fans cease to complain about the women not getting treated properly, is the day the advancement resulted from the "revolution" (that there has been advancement there's no denying, regardless of the fact that it's a promotional term) is completely undone.

D'you suppose they listen to me when I tell'em so, when I pointed out the consequences, when I recommend 'em to read Coryphaeus? No, Mrs. Ambrose, you will form no just opinion of the stupidity of mankind until you have sat upon a Borough Council!

Re: Lazy writing for #1 Contenders / Championship matches

The entire division is utterly lazy. I don't even know where to begin.

Creative is high on Alexa. She's gone over Sasha and Bayley, two of the Four Horsewomen. But then they book her to lose these silly matches and look like a fool. It only diminishes all of them. It's especially annoying that #1 challengers are won by pinning the champ. You've basically given away the match!

Bayley should have started her way back up, not thrown back in the title mix.

Also, why put Emma in the match if they're not even going to pretend she's only there to take the pin? They make it so obvious that her character is an afterthought.

That might be my biggest pet peeve in all of WWE. Why the hell do they think it's a good idea to have the champ eat pins regularly? It makes them look weak and like you said, you've already given away the match for free on TV.

If they did this once in a while, I could put up with it. But it's a weekly thing now.

Alexa is a heel. She should be cheating to avoid pins but she's taking clean losses regularly. Why should I take a champion seriously that is constantly losing?

As for her challengers, they have even less credibility. Sasha is a loser. I like her but how can you be a "boss" if you can't hold the title for more than a month? She's like the girl who tries to act tough but always gets beat up.

Bayley...

I blame myself for giving the WWE the benefit of doubt. They never cared about the division. It was only about Stephanie being jealous of the attention Serena Williams and Ronda Rousey had and wanting to make a "revolution".
