Re: Biggest On-the-Cusp Star That Vince Missed Out On

I consider guys like Rude, Roberts, Dibiase, Perfect, and Piper to be stars. They were just from an era dominated by a bigger star and didn't get to hold the top spot. It isn't like they weren't heavily utilized. Out of that bunch I've always preferred Jake. Just barely though.

Now if I'm looking at what has constituted what I feel like a star for quite a long time now, my answer is Muhammad Hassan. He was literally cut off just at the moment he was about to be allowed to really shine.

Paul Orndorff, obviously in the timeframe of the Hogan feud.

I always felt that he was a Hogan alternate at that time, except he had a matter-of-fact character where Hogan was more gung-ho.

Re: Biggest On-the-Cusp Star That Vince Missed Out On

I wasn't alive during the 80s and I started watching during the Monday Night War era, but Jake the Snake, Dibiase, Mr. Perfect, Rude, Vader, Luger, Scott Hall, and even King Kong Bundy were all stars of the era. They might not have won the WWF championship, and they definitely should or could have and even as a kid growing up in the 90s, I knew who they were. They're all legends.

Rob Van Dam IS a star and ranks as a wrestling legend in my mind too, especially as I grew up watching the original ECW. In fact, I'd even say that he's the wrestler thats synonymous with ECW for me. In WWE, however? They dropped the ball on him.

In the current era, I'd definitely say that Rhodes and Ziggler are two huge on-the-cusp stars. I'm not talking Rock/Austin/Hogan level here, obviously, but if creative struck while the iron was hot after Ziggler won Survivor Series or when Cody returned after his firing to face the Authority, they could've become much bigger players. Punk, Bryan, Ziggler, Rhodes, Cesaro, Barrett, Sandow, Rusev...these were the guys that, along with Ambrose, Rollins, and the Wyatt family, could've ushered in a new era, but instead...

I'll go with Ziggler. He was redhot between mid 2012 and mid 2013. Got one of the loudest pops in wrestling history with his cashin. Look at him now. Rick Rude is another one. Guy had all the charisma in the world. What is Snake doing on your list? He had a great career and is in the hof

Roberts could have been a LOT more than he was had he not been defeated by his own demons.

I went with Jake, but Vince would have been more comfortable with Rude. Neither would have been a bad choice.

Re: Biggest On-the-Cusp Star That Vince Missed Out On

I think Jake would've been a huge star if he didn't leave after WM8. He was doing some amazing heel work but his best opportunity to really ascend would've happened once Hogan/Warrior were gone. Could have easily seen him getting into a big feud with Bret Hart.

As for missing out, Owen Hart. Every bit as great as Bret was, possibly more since I thought he had great mic delivery and stood out with his own personality, and could have easily been propelled to main event stardom after WMX. Extremely gifted talent that was always put as the workhorse in tag teams for some mysterious reason.

Razor Ramon.

He was the most over mid-carder of his time, very popular babyface, one of the coolest superstars, very marketable, great mind for the business even helping change the game for the business, oozed charisma, great mic skills in which he came up with a ton of catchy catchphrases.

He was kinda like a white Rock, even in ring attire, but with a little less charisma and popularity though. But he was close.

Booker T for me, easily. Over as hell, charisma, awesome theme music, had the look, had a catchphrase....Only to f it up at Mania 19. Not surprised that there's Vince doesn't like "full blooded African-Americans" as his main star theories out there. That didn't help his case.
