Re: Meltzer Believes WWE want CM Punk to return
With Daniel Bryan's contract coming up in late 2018, I had this perverted vision of him basically only agreeing to a long-term WWE contract with some sort of creative role on SmackDown. Basically, in order for the WWE to stop him from wrestling again, they let him run SmackDown the way he wants to run it, with him deferring a lot of the workload to Paul Heyman, who gets a fair amount of autonomy. In this environment, I could see CM Punk making a return. SmackDown would be the "wrestling show" without a doubt, and run like ROH/New Japan took over the blue brand.
I don't know why I think that has a chance of happening, but Bryan is probably in a situation where he is a better position than others would be to try and angle himself into some sort of vantage point with WWE. Not necessarily holding them at gunpoint, but essentially saying "If I'm going to stay out of the ring, I need to be involved in the wrestling product somehow, and this is my grand idea -- give it a shot and I'll stay."
Weirder things have happened, I assure you.
