SES. That hits me in the feels. Some of my favorite WWE programming ever. I must go back and rewatch it.

CM Punk actually managed to receive great heat just for being straight-edge, and for preaching about the dangers of people taking foreign substances into their bodies. Solid heel work by him
Punk is one of the few guys that can pull off the Triple H length monologue. It felt scripted but in the right way where this asshole has a spiel ready about how he's a prophet.

the only good part of WWE at that time and the last great storyline in WWE.

him taking the celebration from Jeff and his long die hard fans has to be one of the best and brutal heel moves in WWE. Still remember when JR came into the ring to do interview with Jeff, everyone in the crowd was crying with joy and then his music hit...BAAAAAH GAWWWWWD...that was the heist of the century

Wrestling is best when it blurs the line between reality and storyline. SES Punk was an exaggerated version of himself - arrogant, self righteous and condescending. Speaking as someone who enjoys alcohol and the marijuanas, I absolutely despised him at the time. In retrospect he was doing exactly what a heel should do which is to make the audience hate you, something somewhat lost in this day and age. I was never a fan of CM Punk but he definitely earned my respect over the years.

I also enjoyed said things at the time, but I was like "fuck, he's right, I'm such a piece of shit" and he became the babyface hero I desperately needed.

Striker's creepy commentary aside, this is one hell of a segment. Punk got such good heat with this gimmick.

Re: CM Punk heel run on SmackDown 09-10

CM Punk's heel turn in 2009 was awesome. He had so many people mad and got major heat for telling the truth about drugs and alcohol. His feud with Jeff Hardy was my favorite one on Smackdown that year.

CM Punk was gold in his heel run. I hate that stupid finish at Breaking Point, it should have ended differently.

Re: CM Punk heel run on SmackDown 09-10

CM Punk's heel turn in 2009 was my favorite turn of all time, because it was so organic and you understood completely where he was coming from. He was never suspended, he was clean, he was talented and a good role model for kids, yet the crowd booed him in favor of a guy who was the polar opposite, and you saw him week by week become frustrated by this. That Jeff could do no wrong and Punk was painted as the villain.

Then that glorious moment after Jeff defends the title successfully, and Punk comes out to congratulate him and says, "You know Jeff, after the last few weeks..." and then

And he completely murders Jeff, and his response to Teddy Long telling him how badly Jeff's injuries were was priceless.

I just love this feud, loved Punk during this, and could talk about it forever. It's even more amazing when you consider Punk "banished him" from the wwe in 2009, and he only just now showed up. Too bad he wasn't around for them to reference it.

I miss feuds where it felt like wrestlers actually hated each other.
