Recently in an interview, Kurt Angle was asked who out of the current WWE roster he would like to face the most. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Kurt picked AJ Styles. What with all the rumors going around of Angle becoming the new Raw GM and AJ joining Raw post-WrestleMania, it seems like this match happening could actually be a very likely possiblity.
Setting up this match wouldn't be too hard. AJ has already been shown out to be kind of a rebel after his current feud with Shane McMahon. Have Kurt and AJ show tension between each other ever since their first encounter on Raw (or reencounter if you count their TNA history), and build it up until Summerslam where they finally end up facing each other. What I would personally do though is have Kurt debut as a face GM, keep AJ as a heel, and then later double-turn them both somewhere down the feud. Hell, you could even have a full-blown war with The American Alpha serving as Kurt's/corporate goons, and The Club (AJ, Anderson & Gallows) as a face stable. The possiblities are endless.
There are plenty of naysayers here though who will probably claim that Angle shouldn't get in the ring ever again, because of his injury problems and also because of his age. I can see your point, but wouldn't a match of this caliber be a great final chapter to Kurt's legacy? And besides, it's AJ Styles, for Christ's sake. The best current wrestler WWE has, maybe even the best wrestler in the world as of now. Even Kurt himself has said that when facing AJ, you don't really have to do much in the ring to make it great, so there really shouldn't be much to worry about if the match actually were to go down.
I completely understand why AJ is so much fun to work with Ė you donít have to do anything. He does all of it for you. Any other wrestler who would tell you different is lying. AJ does all the work. Thatís whatís so cool about it.
I honestly think this feud and the consequential match could be pretty good if done right. Thoughts?
