Re: Nakamura Is Ready To Be The Guy

Nakamura has appeal that transcends cultural barriers, but I worry that he is going to be "just another guy." I'd honestly rather see him retain the NXT Championship and then do this thing where he defends it on the main roster from time-to-time. WrestleMania can be the first time. That entrance at Mania would be huge, the crowd would love it and be hyped for who it is; the problem is when you have to have him out there the next night doing the same entrance and people get used to it. Then he's done.

I'd love to see Nakamura team with John Cena in an angle -- I think there would be electricity there -- but I'd want him to be treated more like The Undertaker was prior to 2010. I don't want to feel like he's on the main roster now and that finding things for him to do becomes a chore. Keep him NXT Champion, have him show up every now and then to defend the belt and promote NXT to the casual viewer. The "Nakamura match" can become an attraction for hardcores on their live specials. Maybe treating him different gets him over with your average Joe too.

He is Brock Lesnar. Nakamura isn't.

And it hinders Brock a bit.

Re: Nakamura Is Ready To Be The Guy

I sincerely agree but with one caveat. I've said this a couple of times here before, and it still holds true: In order to be a legitimate main eventer and FOTC he needs a mouth piece. That's not a knock on him - he's one of my favorite wrestlers, and he's definitely charismatic. I just think in order to be the face of the company, he needs somebody who can cut the promos that that position demands.

It's kind of lazy to default to Heyman, but he's probably the best guy for the job. I don't think Nakamura should be voiceless, I just think he should have somebody who can cut the long promos, and build anticipation for the big PPV's. Heyman could definitely take on the work load.

The FOTC does more than just cut promos, he often represents the company on the few chances the WWE goes mainstream.

PEople ignore the fact NXT suffered when Balor and Bayley were replaced by Nakamura and Asuka. It isn't just about a quality standpoint or talent standpoint. Those two can't even promote fucking NXT because of their lack of English. You think Vince will make them the face of a Raw or SD where they have to go on ESPN, Good Morning America, E! red carpets, etc and talk to promote the actual brand if they can't do it for NXT because they haven't developed their English enough yet?
