It's never going to happen, so it's not even worth debating. His dad murdered his wife and their son. Whether it's right or not, his other son will never have a chance in WWE.

Re: Should David Benoit be given a chance to wrestle in WWE?

So his dad had a psychotic breakdown and murdered his family. That is not this kid's fault.

I do think that by wrestling under a different last name it would be enough to distance himself from Benoit's legacy.

And Chris Benoit himself was a good man for most of his life. What he did was monstrous but lots of NFL players have also done horrible things afters years of traumatic brain injury. I am still a fan of Benoit's work in WWE, even if I am sickened by the person who did it now, he was still an amazing wrestler in his day. Out of respect for that I would totally give his son a chance.

he'd have to be special for WWE to consider him.

And he's not.

If he good, sure, but he'd need to be thick skinned and have a quick tongue for the inevitable assholes in the crowd. If you ask me, the best thing they could do is have him wrestle under another name and address the Chris Benoit/Benoit chants head on. Depending on whether he's a heel or a face, use it to call out the fans on how horrible they are as human beings or to gain sympathy, whatever.

We all know the WWE would never have the balls to do that though.

Re: Should David Benoit be given a chance to wrestle in WWE?

There's some real optimistic comments in this thread.

OF COURSE he would have "Benoit" chanted at him. This is the hardcore wrestling fans we're talking about. They're mostly self-obsessed marks that want nothing more than to grab attention for themselves by chanting stupid crap. They've already been heard chanting "Benoit" at HHH at Full Sail more than once, and with absolutely no prompting. Imagine Benoit's son being in the ring - especially if he's the heel. The crowd would eat that shit up.

Having said that, knowing WWE's historic opinion on bad taste in their angles, they'd probably bring him in with a "Benoit's Son" gimmick, call him the "Canadian Killer" and have him hitting himself in the head with stuff and acting like a psycho.

Hey, ratings are ratings.

Re: Should David Benoit be given a chance to wrestle in WWE?

He'd have to go by a different name. I know Jericho really looks out for him, so it may be possible. I think he's only started wrestling within the past 3 years though. So I'm not sure if he's even any good. I believe he should have to earn it. No sense in skating him through on a name you can't mention on camera if he's trash in the ring. But if he's good enough, he should be given a chance. Sons of wrestlers often do better than their fathers. It would be tough for him to surpass his father's skill however.

Also, I see lots of talk of him not being a "physical specimen". He's not genetically predisposed to be one. Chris went through a lot of cycles to get as big as he was and paid the price. David could be a cruiserweight. It would benefit him greatly to not take the parh of his father. And this is a different era where smaller guys are what's in demand.

Re: Should David Benoit be given a chance to wrestle in WWE?

Not while Vince is around. I feel once he is gone, we're gonna be at a point where the Benoit fiasco is maybe as far as 15-20 years in the past and so they should be out with it right away, and hopefully society will be at a point where they're over it. There would be no reason for him to not.
Obviously this also all depends on if he's any fucking good or not...

Yes, if he's talented enough then yes he should be given a chance. As others have said his father committed these atrocious acts not David.

Re: Should David Benoit be given a chance to wrestle in WWE?

If he's talented enough, then yes. He shouldn't be left out of an opportunity just because of what his father did (as atrocious as it is). If you want to avoid Benoit chants entirely, you can't, but things that can help quell it a bit include A.) not making a spectacle out of his hiring, B.) have him use a different name and C.) use a mask gimmick. He'll still get some I'm sure, but if they virtually ignore it, the crowd will get bored and move on.
