Jerry Lawler explains his current situation with WWE

Quote:
Jerry Lawler was on Sports56 in Memphis yesterday and said Kevin Dunn called him and said that his salary was too large for the pre-game show and they were also getting rid of the pre-game show. Lawler said he's under contract until January and said they will talk about a new deal, and talked that he may sign a talent contract and that Vince McMahon called him and told him he's not done and told him the pre-game show was dropped as a cost-cutting measure and that he would remain the MC at the Hall of Fame ceremony. We'd been told Lawler would get a legends deal and would continue to MC the Hall of Fame and work some events for the company.

Jerry has good moments and then moments you really want to forget. Still he's a pretty good guy all around and think he's good for business.
Greenlawler and Vic Capri like this.

That pre show was totally useless.

Kevin Dunn of all people saying someone else's salary is "too high."

Re: Jerry Lawler explains his current situation with WWE

To be fair he had it good from the way it was explained. HE was making his tv fee for every preshow and the kickoff. So King went from being paid for working SD and the ppv to being paid 10 times a month with the single brand ppvs and two preshows while working less time.

It was not feasible to pay King that fee 10x, pay Booker and Lita their legends money, and pay Stafford to leave the news company he works for twice a week.

Re: Jerry Lawler explains his current situation with WWE

When they say "getting rid of the pre-game show", they mean the pre-Raw/SD ones, right? Don't know which one King was on. PPV pre shows are worthwhile, especially for shows like Mania to get everyone on the card.

Anyway, no big loss. King had a great run. Unsure why he was taken off commentary, he phoned it in for years on Raw, and gets booted from SD right as he was getting good again. He's a great MC for the Hall of Fame though so we have that to look forward to.

Re: Jerry Lawler explains his current situation with WWE

The preshows were stupid when they easily could've brought back sunday night heat and velocity. Although I don't like king but he could've been placed on either one of those shows.

Re: Jerry Lawler explains his current situation with WWE

Shame about King but I'm glad they're getting rid of the pre-game shows. I always hated and skipped them. They felt out of place for a fake wrestling show. Pre-game show panels only fit real sports.
