Well we know USA was not happy with SmackDown's ratings, which promoted the WWE to do the whole brand split thing and move SD to a live show (which increases the production costs to put the show on) with no increased compensation from USA. So to me that shows the WWE cares about their ratings or at least they care what USA thinks about them.

How we know this?
Because USA told them: do something about those Smackdown Ratings, and we ain't paying for it!

If my Ratings were sliding down Crap Mountain, I'd divert the audience and placate shareholders too by telling them they just as often watch social media, knowing full well that doesn't come remotely close to TV money.
As much as WWE points towards WCW as an incompetent company that hemmoraged money, if WCW had the TV Money WWE was getting today, they would be alive and well.

Network income is not close to TV money as well.

How can a station be happy when its number 1 show loses 30% of its audience within 12 months?
Without TV money, that company would be in flat out panic mode, the way ratings go down, the way house show attendance drops, the way WWE is looked upon by people, the way they fail to generate new fans.

Well that is a given - WWE seem to care more about what people think about them and their image then trying to put on a decent show, no matter who it pisses off or frustrates.

I definitely agree with that. I guess they got til 2018 with their current TV deal so hopefully they start worrying about it more going forward but who knows
