Yup. If the WWE wants to create true mainstream pop culture stars ever again then "average looking guy that puts on good matches" isnt gonna do the trick. Sure the taxi driver thing is kinda silly and would need to be handled with care, but its FAR more likely to generate discussion and media attention outside of wrestling circles than his current schtick ever could.
I mean having Crash Holly walking around with scales thinking he was twice the size he actually was sounds pretty stupid on paper too, so does having a guy who talks to a mannequin head, or going up to Charles Wright and telling him he should become a pimp and walk to the ring with a bunch of hoes. Yet all of these things made those guys far bigger and more memorable than any wrestling move could.
