Dean Ambrose and the new age of average man wrestling stars.

When i was watching Raw this week it occurred to me that any basic guy with some training could be a WWE superstar these day's. As a kid watching wrestling in the 80's & 90's i never would have thought we would see this day. Thinking back to the 80's Hogan, Warrior, Andre, Road Warriors, Psycho Sid, King Kong Bundy, Big John Stud and the 90's with Hall and Nash ,Vader, Undertaker, Kane wrestlers really had that larger than life feel.

Anyway back to Dean Ambrose being the most basic 225 lb white guy which you can walk into any bar in America at any time and find a guy just like him. Sure HBK looked like a basic everyday guy also but he is such a rare exception because of his in ring talent. How many times do i have to watch Ambrose do the dive through the ropes and rope spin/fake clothesline move.

Wrestling must have become a business where smarks want their favorite wrestler to look like them from a size and physicality standpoint. I knew things were bad when people said CM Punk vs Lesnar was a great match. Newsflash, no it wasn't no matter how much Brock was selling to make it not look fake. The Miz headlined WrestleMania with Cena? Really? If the Miz walked by anyone who never watched wrestling on the street they would think he's just a normal guy. Fans really wanted Daniel Bryan to win the Rumble last year so he could get ragdolled with a bad neck for 20 minutes like Lesnar did to Reigns?

No wonder the ratings are so low and Vince can't seem to let go of guys like Kane, Taker and Big Show who have no business wrestling anymore. There is no replacement for these guys yet. Not only is there no size in wrestling anymore we still have no stars with charisma to replace Hogan, Flair, Austin and Rock. I see why people are making threads about indy wrestlers killing the business. There is a reason those guys wrestle in high school gyms for a small core audience. The problem is not the WWE writers who make the storylines. The problem is the WWE recruiters not bringing in the talent.

At the end of the day wrestlers need to look the part of the role they're playing which is professional fighter. There needs to be an intimidation factor there. Real professional fighters don't need to look the part because their skills speak for themselves. Pretend professional fighters only have their image and presence to sell the suspension of disbelief. All of wrestling is built off the concept of suspension of disbelief, protecting that should be the number 1 priority. That doesn't mean that there shouldn't be room for guys that don't look like fighters but that they should be special attractions and booked very carefully. You can't have Kevin Owens beat Lesnar, in fact if they wrestled you can't even have him be competitive. Daniel Bryan beating Evolution was a great moment for smarks but probably hurt the credibility of the entire product-- there was a reason why they didn't show his matches on the NBC Wrestlemania replay.

But where do we find more "suitable" wrestlers then? It's easy to bash what we have now, but how about some alternatives?

And besides, if these "average" guys are so shitty, how come WWE has them? Doesn't that make Vince McMahon foolish as well?

I always say something to that effect in these retarded threads. If Vince could find charismatic big guys, we would have more. It's really as simple as that. You indy haters act like the indy marks are the ones that hire the small wrestlers. News flash, we don't...Vince does because he thinks that's what will draw.

So is this discussing 'fake wrestling' and then being surprised that on some level it looks like 'anyone could do it.' Should they speed up matches further for the broadcast as well. Reduce it to circus tricks and people running around the ring. This is really quite a non-problem, it would be a strange thing for them to get too dramatic about.

Everyone can't be Daniel Bryan. He was so over because he was the underdog, was so likable, and was the best wrestler in the world at one time. Once you have an entire roster of generic, average, everyday guys, that are no where near as good as he was and are no where near as likable as he was and that angle no longer works.

So yeah, "fuck off."

Bruh, you're seriously defending this cesspool :Jordan you should be better than that.
idk you get varied threads from flaming shit to well thought out. All pretty good whether it's "so bad it's good" or just good.

The LU and other sections don't have as much variety or passionate "fuck you" arguments.. well except sports.

I get op, but not everybody can have a godly body like Owens. And Ambrose body fits his gimmick, i cant even imaging Ambrose have his fringe haircut and a body like batista. It would look stupid.

I don't know these average people your talking about, Dean may not be the biggest guy out there, but he's far above average. I'd like to see what you look like, because here's Dean standing next to Rollins and Roman and he looks to be taller than both of them.

Don't mind naked Rollins with the chick, that's just how he rolls

If you think WWE characters aren't larger than life, then you've got severe psychological problems.

Do we need Doink The Clown frolicking about?

I do think theres a shortage of true monsters in the WWE these days. Most of the really freakishly big guys are old as fuck now. Strowman is very promising though.

As far as Ambrose goes, I think hes charismatic and has mic skills but at the same time i'm not sure I could buy him as a guy that could consistently defend a world title against all comers in a competition with no weight classes. Suspension of disbelief is an important thing.

Lastly, not sure i'd agree with the folks saying Austin looked like a regular guy. He wasnt exactly a giant but he was near 250lbs and built like a linebacker.

Dean is just as big if not bigger than all these guys.

He is wider than Rollins there

I disagree about Sheamus too, Dean had a few matches with him over the US title on SD that are way better than the Reigns-Sheamus (which was solid)
