Could Sting have the same deal as Hogan in 2002?

I was thinking if Sting loses to Rollins then that's gonna make him look pretty bad for whatever match he has coming up after then. I also thought it was odd that Sting gets a WWE title match so suddenly.

But then I thought back to Hulk Hogan in 2002, where he made his grand return to WWE and lost to The Rock at Wrestlemania X-8. The following month though, he was given a WWE title shot against HHH and won the title. He only had the title for a month but I was wondering if this was the case with Sting.

He lost the big match to HHH at Wrestlemania 31, but maybe WWE said to him 'You're going to lose this match, but we're going to give you a WWE title run in the future' so he agreed to losing the match at WM31.

Sting just wants the money. He likely doesn't care.

Re: Could Sting have the same deal as Hogan in 2002?

2002 they were still running on the gravy train of Hogan's triumphant WWE return, so they gave him that last title run, plus it was Hulk Hogan.

It's different with Sting IMO, he's not a 'WWE guy' and has one match where he was booked to lose for whatever reason, maybe it was because at the time it was a one match deal, but since then they agreed that he come back and have this match. Im not sure, but i can't honestly see them giving Sting the WWE title, esp at the expense of Rollins.

Im sure Sting is just happy to be apart of WWE and still getting that chance to be on TV and do what he wants, regardless of the booking.

They'll probably have Sting win at NOC and then do a triple threat with Cena at Hell and a Cell.

They should give him the title to make up for screwing him over at WM31. That was disgusting

Re: Could Sting have the same deal as Hogan in 2002?

The Hogan situation was different, since Hogan was so popular coming off his return that they hot-shotted the belt onto him to try and milk whatever they could out of his nostalgia run (the original plan was for HHH to defend the title against Undertaker instead... They even announced it on television and then changed it the following Thursday on Smackdown.) And even that was extremely short-lived as the iron went cold almost immediately and ratings started tanking, leading to Hogan dropping it only one month later.

I get the logic of Sting winning the title, since two consecutive losses (both against The Authority, no less) would be kind of ridiculous, but I really hope he isn't the one to end Rollins' reign (especially since he would almost certainly be cashed in on by Sheamus not long after, and I don't think anyone is dying to see Sheamus as the world champion again.)

I can see HHH screwing over Rollins and Sting wins the title.
Then the rematch at the next PPV has Sheamus cashing in.

Seeing Sting as WWE Champion would be awesome
