Would It Be Accurate to Call SummerSlam the Anti-Wrestlemania?

The question I state is because I feel that (especially in recent years) Wrestlemania is more traditional and classy. Dreams come true and it closes a bunch of existing arcs. It's also the more traditional showcase of what you got in your company, at Wrestlemania.

SummerSlam feels like it's more "Crash TV", where the matches feel more chaotic, more out there swerves are made and instead of closing a bunch of arcs, it OPENS a bunch of arcs and leaves you with more questions. Plus you have wrestlers start pulling out SummerSlam arsenal (like Seth Rollins with a frog splash tribute to Eddie Guerrero).

For example, in some cases, when you're trying to make a trilogy feud, you usually have the face go over at Mania, heel go over at SummerSlam (USUALLY), then a rubber match later.

What are the thoughts on this?

No. Nothing will ever be that bad again.

I watched that show live on PPV back in the day. I've still never fully recovered.

John Cena never wins at Summerslam so it just might be.

Yup, that's the best part. John Cena is 4-8 at Summerslam and yes, I'm keeping count on his record. The last time he won was at Summerslam 2010.

But yeah, if you want to see Cena get beat, wait for Summerslam.

Re: Would It Be Accurate to Call SummerSlam the Anti-Wrestlemania?

i'm not sure about that

WM 31

Ladder match with Bryan winning: opens an arc

Randy Orton v Seth Rollins: feud continued into the next PPV

HHH v Sting: Ok, this one i'll give you

Divas match: not really an arc, was thrown together at the last minute

Cena v Rusev: feud continued into the following 2 PPVs

The Undertaker v Bray Wyatt: feud that was thrown together at the last minute

Brock Lesnar v Roman Reigns: heel champion closed the show and Reigns' "dream" went up in smokes. It started the arc of Seth as champion and Lesnar/Reigns trying to get back at him

so I don't agree entirely. each PPV is booked differently. it has everything to do with the circumstances, and not the fact that it's Summerslam or WM

Im fine with stories continue at all PPVs, I dont think they need to end at Mania, but some definitive answers, wins and losses should happen at the big shows.

Re: Would It Be Accurate to Call SummerSlam the Anti-Wrestlemania?

I read an article on Grantland a month or so ago about how Summerslam is the Wrestlemania for die-hard fans. I actually agreed with a lot of points made in it. Last night was... Interested in terms of the ending of the main even but the rest of the card was pretty good. You had Rollins over Cena, Cesaro/Owens, New Day capturing the tag titles again, the Divas triple threat (which the match was decidedly meh but it *had* potential) and Boreton/Fella kicked off the card early.

They seemed to get through the light-hearted stuff early (Ziggler/Rusev, Tag Titles, Sheamus/Orton) and really powered home for the final stretch.

Here is the article, I'd recommend giving it a read:
