"The night Brock Destroyed John Cena"

Absolutely amazing. Can you imagine Hogan and Austin doing that job? I can't see it. Maybe The Rock wouldn't mind though being humiliate like that.

Re: "The night Brock Destroyed John Cena"

I cant watch that match cause of the annoying lad in the audience that just keeps screeching "lets go cenaAAHHHHH" every 20 seconds.

this really shouldve been the outcome to of the extreme rules match in 2012, still amazes me that wwe would bring brock back just to have him lose right away......not only that but have cena cut a really weird promo about how he was going away for a while and then never did.

clearly this shouldve been daniel bryan but it made such a bigger impact having cena take the beating. Just a shame wwe never really did anything with the momentum brock was getting. It just gradually fizzled out with no payoff.

Iirc, Brock signed a 1 year deal with WWE to see how his drawing power from UFC would translate to WWE. Kinda risky to have Lesnar beat the fotc at that time and knowing Lesnar who would probably quit again had they booked him so strong immediately.

Love that match, maybe my all time favorite. After years of Super Cena burying people, to have Brock go ham and just annihilate him

Patiently waiting for the Attitude Era to return

This actually was the start of the downfall in ratings back in September 2014. The end of John Cena as the top guy and the start of the Lesnar era.

Hogan kinda did that job for Lesnar in 2002. Not to this degree at all as the match wasn't completely one sided, but it still ended with Hogan coughing up blood and Lesnar destroying him and beating him convincingly. And we all know what happened when Austin was poised to job to Lesnar in 2002. (Sidebar, I agree with Austin's reasonings behind not wanting to do it, though his method of expressing that was not the best).

But yeah, this Summerslam match was shocking. I was actually bored through most of the match because I was just waiting for that Five Moves of Doom Cena comeback. I was like "OK, lets see it" but then Lesnar just beat him! I was like "WHAT?!?".

It was so refreshing to see something like that. It added a certain level of realism to things. There are one sided games and one sided fights in real sports and I think because it is scripted entertainment and because of the Monday Night Wars changing everything, everybody expects almost every match to be competitive, so doing something like this broke the mold and took everyone by surprise, in a good way.

I remember when Lesnar ended the streak and I thought "Yeah and Cena will probably beat him because why not?" but fortunately that didn't happen and they actually used the credibility Lesnar gained from ending the streak and demolishing John Cena effectively. Basically every Lesnar match since this has felt like a bout that could literally end at any moment, and there is a certain level of excitement that comes along with that.

It is one of the reasons his match with Goldberg at WrestleMania 33 was so good. It was easy to buy that both of these bulls were trying to kill each other and win it, rather than just feeling like they were acting out a well rehearsed athletic script.

Re: "The night Brock Destroyed John Cena"

Felt monumental at the time. Definitely ended the Cena era and gave us the Brock era. In hindsight...I prefer the Cena era.
