Extreme Rules PPVs aren’t very extreme..why do they keep doing them and promoting it as such?

I get they have sponsors and they are PG, however why dO the PPV then if they won't deliver? It's pretty insulting everytime I see a commercial for Extreme Rules saying it's the most violent show of the year. That young kids should be aware and shit like that. None of the matches are extreme, no violence to speak of. The only Extreme Rules match last year was Alexa vs. Nia, it was bad, hardly any weapons until Ronda killed everyone. I remember two years ago they had a 5 way Extreme Rules match and no weapons were used. What was the point of labeling the match Extreme Rules? The main event last year was an....iron man match how extreme. Just can the PPV, they don't care about living up to the name then why bother? Fans aren't stupid, no one buys into that PPV hype anymore. I know everyone's answer will be the same "ugh just ban all gimmick PPV's...", while I don't disagree, this specific PPV just bothers me

Sadly to them extreme is using the word ASS on TV with an occasional crash onto an announce table.

This is a thinly vieled "Moxley vs Janela had tacks and barb wired WWE won't do that" thread. As for why it's called Extreme Rules it's because instead of organically doing gimmick matches WWE rather force them in gimmick themed PPVs

Considering how most PPVs usually consist of regular matches, the standard for what constitutes as "Extreme" and "violent" has been lowered to where having a few chair shots/kendo stick spots in ONE MATCH is enough to qualify an entire event as "Extreme Rules".

If you look at the card of Extreme Rules over the past years, you'll notice it's just your typical PPV with probably a steel cage match or a no DQ match sprinkled in there. Beyond those 1 or 2 matches, the PPV is very mild and is nowhere close to being as violent as it was 8 years ago, and it definitely pales in comparison to its predecessor from 11 years ago (One Night Stand).

Another reason might be rooted in the fact that you now have a lot of gimmick PPV like TLC, MITB, and HIAC which have taken away some aspect of the Extreme Rules concept.

Sorry to disappoint. I'm the PRIMERA.

They should drop gimmick PPV apart from Money In The Bank imo.

At this point you truly are paying for the title and not necessarily the content when it comes to the extreme rules events. We have so many gimmick matches and in my humble opinion over used so many gimmick matches that the concept of a cage match, hell in a cell match, last man standing match etc have truly been diluted and now effect events like Extreme Rules. IF you look back to previous times they could always rely on a gimmick match to bump up their numbers because of the way they treated matches like this, but now you begin to notice that these matches are not always guaranteeing the big business that they hoped for.

Sorry to trigger the WWE fanboys, but Mox v Janela was more extreme than anything WWE has done in years. And better to.
WWE should retire the Extreme Rules PPV because how Extreme can you be if you are PG???
