Scream 5 In Early Development At Spyglass Media Group

Quote:
Weve confirmed that a Scream 5 is in the works at Spyglass which picked up the Dimension library after joining forces with Lantern Entertainment back in March.

No details yet who will direct or write the next film, a franchise that was hatched by the late Wes Craven and scribe Kevin Williamson. Ditto if the old cast, i.e. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Rose McGowan are coming back. Also we dont know if its a prequel, a reboot or sequel. But that would be cool if they brought Drew Barrymore back for a full film after being in the opening scene of the first 1996 pic. All will be unveiled soon.

The four movies racked up over $604M, and the TV series on MTV ran 29 episodes across three seasons.

Bloody Disgusting first had the news.

Scream TV series (available on Netflix) is aight, but I'm slightly interested in the direction of the first Scream movie without Wes Craven (RIP) at the helm.

I don't even know what you do with the Scream series anymore.

1-3 was a trilogy and 4 was basically an epilogue of sorts. Even if you brought back the original cast, I can't say I'd be interested. If you're gonna do it, even if you still use the old case, I'd rather see a rebooted story.

Since Scream sometimes goes meta with Horror clinches maybe this one will be a crossover with another horror movie lol.

A prequel would be cool though, with Roman coming up with the idea of Ghostface and starting his plans/movie.

Meta is something somewhere in the vein of New Nightmare would be lovely. I just hope they could get the gang together for this I would still bang Neve Campbell. Jordan Peele I really want to be apart of this just Producer the dude gets Horror and Comedy and he knows to get that balance.

They have to kill Sydney, Dewey, or Gale. Come on. Just do it.

Loved the Scream movies and the MTV show was solid. I couldn't bring myself to watch that Season 3 whatever the hell it was. Left so much open on the show granted killing off a main character opening of the Halloween special was disappointing.

Maybe they could do it like modern horror movies were everyone is a unlikable asshole that you want to die ASAP. And to top it off, Ghostface is given a sympathetic backstory that you're suppose to feel for even though he/she is a murdering asshole.

It needs a new cast of characters. There's nothing left for the OG three to do, especially Gale and Dewey. I'd be down for a new set of people if they get a good writer and director. Someone who gets horror and what made the first one so great, not someone who turns it into a straight-up comedy (which Scream 4 felt like at times). Scream was funny, sure, but funny in a way where we imagine that's how we'd all act with a serial killer in town.

I think this is one of the few movies if done right that could actually be pretty good.

It's entire plot gives it leeway that most late sequels etc don't.
