Re: Scream 5 In Early Development At Spyglass Media Group

Idk if it looks promising, but I like that this franchise is still going. I hope it's good, and not just some shitty cash grab. Also, the original story is over, we need something new.

Season 3 was shit. Seasons 1-2 were not exactly like the movies, but had a nice story and could continue for some number of years, but of course MTV decided to go the idiot route and just ruin everything. 3 years of waiting for season 3 only for it to have a new cast, new story (a bad one, for that matter) and a mediocre acting. 1-2 didn't have "great" actors, but it was solid, I'd rather they continue that.

CURRENT:
Jon Moxley, Sami Zayn, Chris Jericho, Drew McIntyre, PAC, Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens, Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe, MJF, Bray Wyatt.

These movies belong to the 90s/early 2000s.

Slashers are done now.

Slashers may make a small comeback. Not huge blockbuster money, but profitable nonetheless.

Halloween (2018) made $256 million at the box office on a $10 million budget. The series is set to release two more sequels in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

In 2019, Happy Death Day 2U made $64 million and Child's Play made $44 million. Both movies turned a profit on similar production budgets, around $10 million. We'll see how Black Christmas on a $15 million production budget performs next month.

Scream 4 (2011) on a $38 million production budget brought in $97 million at the box office. Scream 5 made for say $25-30 million would likely be profitable.

Jesus Christ, why?

Oh yeah, Horror movies get sequels over and over again until the end of time.

Re: Scream 5 In Early Development At Spyglass Media Group

What made the original so good was the meta references that were still fresh when it first came out. Not sure how it would work after decades of meta being popularized in all kinds of entertainment. Scream 4 didn't exactly draw. Feels like Happy death day is already the spiritual successor to Scream this decade with a fresher take on the slasher/comedy genre after almost a decade of nothing from the genre.

Re: Scream 5 In Early Development At Spyglass Media Group

I would be behind this if they never killed Cotton. Have come back from the grave some how some way. He would be the perfect final Scream killer. He would be the most believable(Liev Schreiber) Have the back story of how why he waited so long he took to track Sydney down. Maybe he was killing elsewhere Some shit like that. Don't take away all the comedy but limit it and take this as dark, vicious, and gory as you can. Kill off Dewey and Gale mid way through. Sydney kills Cotton in a carnival(a nod to some older flicks)...maybe he gets her good she is just lying there...and her fingers move...and the screen goes dark for like 30 seconds before the credits. Leaving it up open for another movie...or maybe she just dies too.

Re: Scream 5 In Early Development At Spyglass Media Group

I always liked scream and scream 3, didn't think much of scream 2. Never watched scream 4.

think scream generally needs a rebooted story of sorts with the old characters maybe making cameos or helping out in a side role when a new killer shows up somewhere. There is really no point in making them the main focus when their story is basically wrapped up.

I'll definitely give it a watch, but for the life of me I can't remember anything from Scream 4 even though I have seen it.

Slashers have been a thing since the late 70s though, and had some serious popularity till the mid to late 00s, at that point they sarted to lose steam esp once SAW and similar franchises made the traditional slasher stuff look tame by comparison. But then again, some franchises like collector and all that crap are basically slashers in a way.
