Re: Is Marvel the only good thing left in entertainment?
Indie films are getting a lot more (deserved) attention than ever before. DC seems to have gotten its shit together. Star Wars still has its remaining films coming out, and who knows what more they will do.
What Marvel has done is simply nothing like anything we've ever seen before. It is the dominant talking point of the film industry and rightfully so. That doesn't mean there isn't other great things happening. There was a time when Vietnam war films were the biggest talking points in entertainment. There was a time when gangster films were the norm. The early 2000s were dominated by the fantasy film genre, with the Star Wars prequels, The Lord of the Rings films and Harry Potter films receiving so much hype.
Television is no different. MASH once dominated the entertainment industry. We all know how insanely popular Pro Wrestling got in the 90s. Breaking Bad was one of the most talked about shows during its tenure. Something will come up that will replace Game of Thrones.
Right now, comic book films are the new big thing, and will continue to be for a while with DC now gaining some momentum. But there's still some really REALLY good stuff going on right now that people aren't paying too much attention to. Endgame received loads of attention for very obvious reasons. But so did Lord of the Rings Return of the King. So did the third Godfather movie. So did anything that had a large following and loads of hype. But there are definitely a lot of good things left out there.
