@Obfuscation ; one post above.

The semicolon is your friend, @Bubz ;.

The director behind Berberian Sound Studio and The Duke of Burgundy merits anticipation with his new film.

Ah, I see. Thank you Deso.

In Fabric is tonally really different than his others but just as bizarre and insane, actually might be his most insane yet. Goes full Giallo stylistically at points.

Re: General Movie Discussion Thread Part VIII

This is good news. And some I was sure to expect too, but here's hoping the interest is well worth it. I can jokingly say I don't think anything will ever top The Duke of Burgundy for me, although, that's not a bad thing + nor am I against any of Strickland's other efforts giving it a shot.

That Sawa tweet about the films out now looking the same nearly 30 years ago is hilarious.

Re: General Movie Discussion Thread Part VIII

Talking of 2019 films, I watched High Life. Claire Denis films often fail to connect with me despite me having a great appreciation of her direction. This one connected. Maybe something to do with it being within a genre I love, or maybe it's that this isn't quite as hard to grasp from a narrative POV as some of her other work. And that's weird to say considering this basically throws the rules out the window, especially in terms of any sort of traditional sci fi narrative. Denis' elliptical style is here in full force, and it couldn't work any better than it does in the context of this story and this setting. It's disturbing, bleak and occasionally scary, but the climax seems to offer some semblance of... something. Whether it's hope, love, perseverance, life or something more mysterious I'm not really sure, but it's absolutely visceral and powerful. While it isn't my favourite film of the year, it's easily the most interesting, mysterious and thought provoking that I've seen.

Despite what you may have heard about so-called "smark marks" and the "IWC" some of us are actually here to help. All you have to do is ask.

Unsure how I feel about that film on paper, but I'll def give it a watch whenever the mood strikes/I find it. Still yet to see a Denis film, although I've been on the verge of Trouble Every Day for a bit now.

Re: General Movie Discussion Thread Part VIII

I cannot even begin to fathom how something like “Midsommar” gets a semi wide release while brilliant filmmakers like Benson and Moorhead are barely recognized.

By the way, Lars Von Trier wants his shitty throw away script back.

Re: General Movie Discussion Thread Part VIII

There's a new Tsai Ming-Liang film? Fantastic news.

Ari Aster is officially a geek hack. He must be stopped.

Harmony Korine, on the other hand, is still amazing; loved The Beach Bum. Hilarious nihilistic wonderment going on there. Jonah Hill might have found his best character during it + to no surprise, Zac Efron was great. And it's another winner regarding Benoit Debie's cinematography. It's all lost in the fog. With a love for dolphins.
