We may differ on our care for the franchise at this current point, but certainly the era of trailers is well, ad nauseam, the usual. Especially by the demon conglomerate it is operating under now.

Re: General Movie Discussion Thread Part VIII

After watched and loving Into the Spider-Verse in the week, I then went on and had a really bad weekend for movies. I watched The Devil's Candy which isn't quite as boring as these films usually are but it was still pretty rubbish.

I heard really good things about Netflix's Annihilation and while it is certainly far better than the grossly overrated Ex Machina nearly all my problems with that movie cross over to this one. That "Help Me" Bear sequence though.... NOPE.

I then capped that off with the Netflix Death Note movie as I wanted to know if it was good as a film but the only commentary I saw was either weebs crying, people calling the movie racist or a combination of both. Doesn't really seem necessary as adaptation problems and racism aside, this movie was absolutely awful on its own merits.

@Bubz ;

I got copies of Silence, Call Me By Your Name, and Logan Lucky, so these should be watched pretty, pretty, pretty soon on my part. Random chime in for some potential thoughts incoming. Now lets hope I enjoy all three.

Re: General Movie Discussion Thread Part VIII

Nice! I'm pretty sure you'll dig Logan Lucky. It's Soderbergh in fun, silly caper mode. Fantastic chemistry in the cast too. The other two I hope you can get something out of too.

I watched Into The Spider-Verse and was so surprised by it. I loved it. Kind of reminded me of Kickass but I liked it a lot more. Also Nic Cage is a film Noir version of Spiderman and it rules. Really funny film.

I don't know if I mentioned it but I rewatched Chinatown recently and I think it's one of the best films ever made at this point. Films like this, Mulholland Drive, Vertigo. They're like drugs you just want to go back to all the time.

Re: General Movie Discussion Thread Part VIII

Soderbergh's is def the one I expect to be the easy lock with me. The other two I'm very curious about, just have to see how they're accomplished. As I added about Silence ^^^.

Oh gosh yes Chinatown is a literal, total masterpiece. (this ELITE Polanski crop of his films is something else) I love that grouping with the other films you list with it; more than fitting & I adore all of them. For an additional toss in: Solaris. Keep the drugs coming.

Fulci fans, do you prefer The Beyond or The House by the Cemetery?

House by the Cemetery for me. It is the most different of the three films in the Spiritual Trilogy and since I didn't really care for the other films, I appreciated this one for being a change of pace. Dr. Freudstein is awesome and House features Fulci at his most coherent.

Re: General Movie Discussion Thread Part VIII

I'm about to start the mother of all Horror film marathons. Starting with the Silent era before I continue on into the 30's, and then beyond.

I've wanted to do this for a long time but I never followed through. Lets change that.

Starting with the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The Beyond for sure. City Of The Living Dead is right up there with it though.
