Well, I do.

Of course the how matters. If a character gets a shitty ending, it soils the entire journey because it makes everything that led to that moment pointless. This is no different a concept than why wrestling fans get mad when 2 guys have a great 20 minute match that ends in a dq. You wasted everyones time. I'm sure it will be written incredibly but I fucking hate the ending, no matter how it's written.

Imagine if in Lord Of The Rings, Sam threw the ring in the volcano instead of Frodo. It wouldn't matter how masterfully it was written, it would still be dumb because that's the wrong arc for the wrong character.

It doesn't help that in addition to being the wrong arc for the wrong character, Bran is literally the worst, most boring character in the books that's of any note. I don't know how anyone has ever attempted a re-read of his chapters.

‘Game of Thrones’: Lena Headey Admits She ‘Wanted a Better Death’ for Queen Cersei

Still, the star knows that creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss "couldn't have pleased everyone."

[Editor’s note: The following post contains spoilers for “Game of Thrones” Season 8.]

When HBO’s seminal fantasy series “Game of Thrones” wrapped up its truncated final season last month, the show inevitably ended with a slew of deaths for some of its signature characters, including Lena Headey’s embattled Queen Cersei, who ended her eight-season run in tragic (and, as some fans noted, sort of anticlimactic) fashion.

Despite making a last minute attempt to escape King’s Landing, suddenly turned into a flamed-out battleground after years of threats, Headey’s Cersei ultimately perished in the bowels of the city, clinging to her brother and lover Jaime as everything literally collapsed around them. It was quick, sad, and a touch confusing, and perhaps not the best way to send out two of the series’ most complex characters.

In a new interview with The Guardian, Headey herself admitted that she has her her “own gripes” with the way the series wrapped. She told the outlet, “I invested as a viewer and I have my favourite characters. And I’ve got a few of my own gripes. But I haven’t sat down drunkly with David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] yet.”

Asked what she would tell the showrunners during said drinking outing, and the British actress was succinct: “I will say I wanted a better death.” She added, “Obviously you dream of your death. You could go in any way on that show. So I was kind of gutted.”

She’s hardly the only one who has opened up about her issues with how the series ended, particularly as it applies to her own character. As both fans of the show and the stars who appeared in the hit series continue to grapple with the end of the HBO juggernaut, other big names have spoken out about their final season feelings.

Charles Dance, who played Cersei’s father Tywin Lannister, admitted the show’s finale “confused” him. Conleth Hill, who starred as Varys on the series, went viral last month for saying he felt the “last couple seasons” of the show were frustrating. For her part, Maisie Williams said she was sad that her Arya Stark didn’t get to kill Cersei, as it had been her “drive” for so much of the show.

And yet, for all the backlash — including a fan-launched petition demanding that the final season be remade — at least Headey is still keeping a measured outlook on the show’s conclusion. As she told The Guardian of the show’s creators, “But I just think they couldn’t have pleased everyone. No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb.”
The comments from Charles Dance and Conleth Hill.

There’s a LOT of room between “couldn’t have pleased everyone” and disappointed nearly everyone; and we all know which one GoT landed closer to.

If one or two or even three or four character endings were a let down it would have been fine, but the WHOLE FREAKIN SEASON was a complete shit show.

Still I’m glad the actors are finally admitting the ending was disappointing. To pretend otherwise is just patronizing and delusional.

Couldn't have pleased everyone is a cop out for failure. It's the mantra for Casey Bloys who is the head of HBO. This guy needs to be fired because almost everything the idiot green lights fucking sucks. He's ruined HBO single-handedly. He became head of HBO AFTER Game of Thrones. He probably would've said no to it.

The ending did not disappoint me because I was disappointed years ago by this show. The ending was actually better than I thought it would be .

I don't remember people being let down by Harry Potter. People were not let down by Lord of the Rings. People were not let down by Star Wars...wait a sec...people were not let down by the original trilogy of Star Wars movies. Lots of really popular things start good, continue to be good, and end good. Game of Thrones is just not one of these things.

Re: Game Of Thrones season 8

They were too faithful to GRR's ending of having Bran be King. Should have went with a show-only ending that made more sense. Or the more likely case is they were just lazy or out of time to write an ending that better fits how the show developed and used GRR Martin's outline as a shield.

Not sure why they didn't give Lena more to do in the final season. She was one of their darlings throughout the show. Guess they forgot about her too.

I'm more mad we didn't get any Elephants.

Honestly the Night King story should have been season 8's whole arc with season 9 being with the Golden Company and Cersei stuff.

Nope D&D going to ruin Star Wars with their idiocy.

Going to? Not sure how they could actually do worse..... though I guess it will be a fun ride to see if they can.

Thanks for the wonderful memories Ultimate Warrior... happy you got to be recognised as the legend you are before you went. Rest in peace

Benioff and Weiss Mass Effected Game of Thrones. It has nothing to do with couldn't have pleased everyone. "Couldn't have pleased everyone"? From what I've seen, they didn't please ANYONE.

My dad complains about every single book change every time he watches the LOTR trilogy. Of course, he's watched the trilogy dozens of times, because they're fucking great films made by someone who actually loves and understands the source material.

I'm hoping we get a faithful animated adaptation. That'd be amazing. Can't see myself ever re-watching any part of this show past season 3. I tried a re-watch recently after the finale and stopped in the middle of season 2 because I kept thinking about what was to come and it ruined my motivation.
