Re: Your October movie-binging plans (Halloween month, DUH) Part II: Dead by Dawn

Oct 1st - Night of the Living Dead (1990) - serviciable remake to the arguably "greatest of them all". Kinda fits better with the other Dead from the original trilogy as the origin of the outbreak is left vague (ditched the Venus probe thing) and the undead from the original had a rudimentary use of tools/weapon absent in Dawn/Day iirc (I'll ignore Land for now). Nowhere up to the original, but a good place to start if one simply can't watch a 50 year old film in black and white.

Hell House LLC 2 - sequel to the sleeper hit from a couple years ago. Part 1 had tons of buildup with creepy stuff going unnoticed as the team was working on making a haunted house show... no build up this time, just short segments of unfortunate people foolish enough to enter the hotel. Hated the first few minutes but then it found its footing and was OK but only for forgiving fans of the first movie.

Well that vampire chatter ended up getting under my skin in the way it always does; it of itself is a fascination that is my own vice, and I had to take the obsessive trip back into it. Blade & Blade II; because why not just watch a month's worth of my favorite films? Exactly. Good ol October. Good ol legendary BLADE.

Watched The Thing and Zombie Creeping Flesh on Monday and Nightmare City and Brain Dead (the Bill Paxton one not the Peter Jackson one) yesterday.

Ah, Zombie Creeping Flesh. Watched that the other week, lots of plenty of flesh munching, tearing and of course it delivers on the gore front. I always have to laugh at those films including random stock footage in them lol. There's shots of monkeys swinging in trees in this from somewhere. The middle of the movie does drag, but there's fun to be had.

Nightmare City almost had the most satisfying gut-punch ending around; then it didn't. But I guess it still does in the scheme of things via its twist of a sake of a twist nature. That's Italian Horror for ya. Really good despite the iffy decision there. The desolation and use of the city limits/location(s) especially were the high point. Like to own this along with other greats like Zombie Flesh Eaters and Burial Ground. They all have blu ray releases now.

Have you guys seen Trick 'r Treat from 2007?

It's one of those gems, but I absolutely loved it. Really good anthology film & is perfect for the Halloween season. I'm actually considering re watching it again, I'd totally forgotten about it.

Watched The Black Cat and The Raven for the first time in a LONG time. Still really fun movies.

Karloff is on another level as the deranged Poelzig. Just a sick depraved bastard, no other way to describe him. Bela is great as always, but Karloff steals the show.

Bela is just as awesome as the Poe obsessed doctor Vollin. Karloff does a great job as the poor fuck stuck in this horrible game.

The Driller Killer is on my screen now. I LOVE this film so much. it just drags me in and keeps me there all the way through and never loses me.

I bought all the Hammer Frankenstein films off Amazon because the blu rays were too hard to pass up. Expect reviews at some point.
